Hello all,
With release of N95, Nokia has a software MapLoader. It has lots of maps of countries around the world. I was able to download the software but not the maps. It states I need to use MAPS in My Own before am able to download any maps. I'm assuming on N95 there's MAPS preloaded in My Own folder.
Does anyone know where I can download MAPS or it will only work on N95?
Cheers,
The Maps (Smart2go) program will work w/ N80. I downloaded it from here: http://www.smart2go.com/en/index_html
This is what I did last time (I use memory card reader since the process to download 100+MB of maps took a long time...this way I can still use the phone):
- download and install the program first. The MAPS program will then show up in your MyOwn folder.
- run it once (I think it needs to create the necessary dir. or whatever in the memory card's private folder IMO)
- download the maploader program from the same place (which you already have)
- eject memory card, put in card reader and connect it to your pc
- run MapLoader, now you should be able to download the maps to your memory card.
- when it's done, put memory card back in and run Maps.
Good luck.
Flux,
did you/ have you used TOMTOM? Hows the nokia s/w compare??
I haven't used TomTom on N80 yet unfortunately and I was gonna get the GPS plan to check out smart2go fully...but, this post at HoFo makes me think twice:

One thing that makes me 😡 is the amount of time I spent downloading the maps for smart2go to the memory card...it's major slow :icon13:

Sorry to jump in, and it's not quite an answer, but I personally think Smart2Go isn't a patch on TomTom. But I'm still running TomTom5 on a 6600 (upgrading finally soon), so it's not a complete comparison.
The problems were, the screensaver kept jumping in (fine not too bothered I guess), but when it did, it would stop talking to the TT GPS. Which means after x minutes the GPS switches itself off, or before x minutes it's still on but you look at the map and the position is where you were. The position would update itself, but it would waft over to the right position. That might be pretty in terms of the graphic, but I'd rather it just jumped over to where I was!
I didn't like either of the map views and thought it just looked a bit 'cheap'. Hard to put a single reason on that though...
Is it possible to use this program, or tomtom, on the n80i without a GPS unit? I dont have a GPS nor do i plan to buy one, but i still want to have the maps on my phone to refer to if/when i get lost.
I have google maps installed on my phone but that connects through gprs and streams the maps. I want a program that stores all the maps on the phone/memory card. Suggestions?

Yes, you can use Smart2Go without a GPS and using Maploader as indicated above you can download all the maps.
Just use it first over wifi to set everything up then you can just use maploader with your PC.
You can get BT GPS units pretty cheaply though - I think there are ones on eBay for 20-30.
i tried downloading smart2go but its just too slow even though i have a broadband connection! i've tried it twice but even when once it reached a 100%, it just never finishes. very odd.

you mean downloading the maps ?? yeah..that's pretty normal w/ smart2go...sometimes it will even go to negative zone...no idea what's that all about. But..in the end, it will finish...it's just taking ages to reach there 😡

Just have a look. There is a cool download site: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/56669/&page=3&highlight=smart2go from "nokia maps"
