Phone calls disconnected

My N95 is currently at a Service Center for repair or replacement, depending of them being able to fix it or not. Here's the thing:

My calls keep getting randomly disconnected. Sometimes it happens after 10 minutes, sometimes after 30 or 40. But it happens every single day on about 90% of my calls, both incoming and outgoing. And it's not on any typical receiving network or something. It's happening on calls to/from other mobiles and on call to/from landlines.
I talked with my network provider, Telenor in Sweden. They blamed Nokia for it because it's probably a "hand over" problem. This is a problem concerning switches between UMTS and GSM network. So I figured, why not turn off the switching? I tried all 3 different settings now on the N95 network mode: dual mode, UMTS and GSM. And on all settings the problem was there: the phone calls disconnected while the text "connection error" was displayed on screen.

Another option would be crappy network reception by my provider, but when I put the simcard in my old phone (Qtek 8500) the problem does not occur. It's on GSM network mode and the calls are never disconnected like that. If it would have been the reception from my provider, then the calls should have been disconnected on both my N95 in GSM mode and my Qtek which is on GSM network? Right! But it didn't.

Maybe it's some software problem, but I doubt it. I have updated my N95 with the latest firmware. And if that was the cause, then lots of others would be experiencing the issue as well. Finally it might be a hardware problem, something with the receiver or something, but I'm not that technical.

Is anyone out there also experiencing this disconnecting problem??

i'm getting the same problem. Calls get cut off randomly at times. Its not if the reception is weak. I don't know if its the network or the phone. I'm on T-mobile UK

Ok, it's just us 2 so far. I'm beginning to think that I'm just unlucky with my N95, that it's just a faulty hardware thing or something.
When I get my phone back, or an new one, I would like to believe that I'll become part of the not-having-this-problem community 😊

nope - there's 3 of us

Same problem , random dropping of call's , I was thinking it was me hanging up with my ear 😉

Hm, so our special group is growing fast 😉 Maybe we should hope that the first batch of phones contains a few hickups, and that an exchange will solve our problem. It's always good to have hope 😊

It is embarrassing everytime when the call gets cut off. Im talking to my friends telling them about the new phone I got and the stuff that it can do n half way it gets cut off.

I know :frown: It's also kinda hard to convince them that the N95 is absolutely awesome.......but you can't seem to have normal phone conversations with it :con?

You can find a lot of information searching old threads 😊 :icon14:

Basically, I had the same problems. I changed the call network settings from dual mode to UMTS (or sometimes GSM) and operator selection to manual. I think it's down to when roaming from 3G to 2G coverage automatically, the phone can't handle it and it restarts. Then people can't hear you when you make calls after it re loads (unless you restart it yourself with the power button). Ive also noticed when my coverage completely drops, and then re appears, if I try to make a call, again no one can hear me. Although this has only ever happened once, which was weeks ago. Anyways, this solved my problem, but some people say it works and some don't (there is also similar issues with the N80 and N73 with certain handsets). There is also other possibilities, such as themes and ringtones needing to be on the phones memory and not a memory card.

A quick fix however is to turn on the loudspeaker, and then back off again.

I think you will find this is a different problem - its not the problem where your not heard. I've had that one ( although not as often since flashing )

What happens here is the phone hangs up the call. thats it , I can redial without problem and continue the conversation but its annoying to have to keep saying "sorry - we got cut off ".

Yes - I've also been getting these over the last six weeks or so - which is hugely frustrating as it makes a mokery of this "multimedia device" which is great with the exception of the ability to make calls... I've been back to T-Mobile and I'm now on my 4th handset and 3rd SIM, but the problem seems to still exit - it does vary from day-to-day in terms of severity, although definitely feels more of a network issue that the actual handset itself. The only way I can lessen the call disconnections is to have it permanently switched onto GSM only - this defeats the purpose of the 3G net abilities (and my 7.50) per month Web and Walk.....
Needless to say T-Mobile are clueless to help - HELP!!!!!!!

just wondering if you guys are on the branded 10. firmware or have debranded to the 11. firmware

How do I check with firmware version I'm on? Also, I stated in my previous log that GSM is fine - It isn't - many disconnections on GSM this morning - and I've noticed the signal switching between GSM and 3G - this ties in with some of the other comments above about how Nokia phones deal with call "hand over""

I'm with Orange and have flashed to the Unbranded 11. firmware

Had this issue before and after the flashing.

NMayling - are you saying that you have upgraded to the unbranded 11. firmware, and the call disconnect problem still persists?
