using a uk 3g phon in the u.s.

hi all i'm in dire need of a solid answer and I can't seem to get one from cingular.

Can i use the european the 3g data speed in the u.s.?

i want to purchase the se p990i and I understand the cingular uses a different bandwidth for their 3g phones than u.s. does.

If the 3g (approx. 300 kbps) won't work in the states then what's the fastest speed I can expect to get in the u.s.? Minus the Wi-Fi speed since that's limited, I'm looking for the typical, consistant speed i can expect to recieve. I plan on using the phone primaraly for the internet and need a phone that can deliver well in that aspect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
The phone can be used in the states on a standard UK 3G sim, as i have tried it. I never used the internet on the device to a very great extend, but speed was fairly fast and stable.
Hope that helps some 😊

3G (WCDMA) in the UK uses a different frequency band than in the USA.

So, the phone has to specifically support both frequency ranges. I don't think the P990 does.
