N80 White Screen of Death (WSOD)

I bought a used (ebay) N80 originally from Hong Kong about 4 months ago. It was working fine for me and syncing well. A few days ago, the screen started to go white whenever I slid it. If I work in the blind, I can use the phone, but what an inconvenience. Is it hardware or software. I have a 1 gig minicard that has 824 mgs of space. What do I do, help. lazer18

I am currently in a country that does not have this model or the software nor a Nokia service center. How can I deal with this problem? But for this major problem, I really like the phone and would not want to replace ... it cost me about $400 US.

Details: N80 (RM-92)
FW: 4.0623.0.41

According to PC Suite updater, this is the latest FW for this model.

Thank you, I am a novice, how do I change it to IE? I am currently in Israel, but there is no service center here and the European site says that they won't service a Hong Kong Nokia. Thanks for the response. I hope you or someone else can advise.

if on windows xp u can use NSS to change the product code to generic nokia IE (Israel code is 0539673) and then up date through NSU to the newest IE firmware for Israel,

Your N80 is faulty. The white screen gets progressively till its always white. Trust me on this one. I am thinking oif sending mine back as its justa white brick now. Will warranty cover this? I chnage dmy I.d code and flashed to IE edition.

I dropped some beer over my phone yesterday (yeah.. I'm stupid and I was drunk!).

Faster than "The Flash", I've powered it off and removed the battery at the same time.
After cleaning it, I put battery back and tried to power on.
Saw the NOKIA on screen... waited the startup time... and NOKIA logo disappeared, but the screen remains WHITE!!
"DAMN!" - I tought - "I fucked my phone!".
Tried to remove battery and power on, but still getting white screen after the NOKIA logo.

So, I've tried to format (green+3+*), and nothing.
After cried a lot, I've removed the MiniSD card, and the phone started up! LoL!
Put back the MiniSD card and it was working..

Now the phone is OK... I don't know why it wasn't powering on... Maybe when I powered off and removed the battery at same time after the beer shower (I didn't wait the phone power off to remove battery).

Hi Guys,

I have the WSOD on my N80 now as well...its is getting on a bit. Has anyone purchased a replacement ribbon connector online? I'm looking for a reputable supplier I'm based in Canada.
