lights on because of magetic clip...battery drained

i discovered a nasty problem with my N95.
I bought myself a nice leather case with magnetic closure (The sort you can clip to your belt.) Since i start using it, i happend several times that i was suprised with a 'dead' phone. The battery was completely discharged.
Another thing i noticed was that sometimes the light switched on while i took the phone out of its case (while the slider was closed)!.
To make a long story short... I discovered that the magnet from the closure of the case is switching on the phone!!
If the phone is slightly moving in its case, its switches on !! (the light).
When this is going on the whole day, it's not strange the battery is drained!!!
Try it fot yourself...if you move a magnet across the front of a N95, the light switches on, the phone thinks the slider is opened!

Interesting point !! Thanks for the alert!

I guess the phone uses magets to detect when its been slid open. I played with it a little and found that running a magnet over the bottom right makes it switch to landscape (thinks its been slid downwards) as well.
I know blackberrys use a magnet to lock and dim the phone becasue their cases have a magnetic clasp which doubles as an autolock when you put it away.

I guess this is a warning not to use magnetic clasp cases for the N95. Thanks for the heads up but sorry you found out the hard way

yep... i'm afraid velcro is the only solution. However these cases are much more 'bulky' than this fine slim magnetically closed case i have now !
