Blackbery 8700g VS P990i VS E61i - My Comparison

Well, i'm actually a fan of PUSH Email & have been using a Blackberry 8700g for a long time now.
Now Days, With so many devices that now have blackberry connect compatibility on them, i though i'd try out some other devices that will suit my email / messaging style with some added features.

So, in the last 15 days i decided on 3 devices & tried them all.
1. Blackberry 8700g
2. SonyEricsson P990i (with the latest OS)
3. Nokia E61i

My main criteria was to use blackberry connect / messaging, Contacts , calender , Notes & Sync with Outlook.
I just though i'd share my experiences with you all.... here goes..

Blackberry 8700 Pros :
1. Of course the push email in all built-in & is rock solid.
2. supurb contacts & calender & notes function - very good search functions included & standard.
3. Rock Solid OS- crashed on me 3 tims in the last 10-12 months.
4. Super Fast Sync.
5. Very good keyboard, good tactile feel to it.
6. Has the best "Profiles" settings.
7. Can load gtalk / yahoo messanger / msn messanger & PIN messanging is FREE between any Blackberry user.
8. Good screen clarity, & voice clarity. Great Speaker phone.
9. You can conenct the USB cable & sync & charge at the same time.
10. excellant battery life.
11. excellant keyboard shortcuts.
12. excellant multi tasking.
13. nice themes.
14. very good "TODAY" theme.
15. All Emails/SMSs can come either in one unified INBOX or in all separate INBOXs

Blackberry 8700 Cons :
1. Slightly Wide to carry al the time.
2. no camera & not hadly to no multimedia support
3. no memory card expansion slot (but with the new pearl & 8800 & curve, this problem is solved)
4. not a very good browser.
5. no wifi
6. you cant transfer files via bluetooth(though with the new 4.2 OS, i think u can)
7. Not too many games.(not that i play any, anyways)
8. Network issues, blackberrys just dont have the best network catching ability.

SE P990i Pros (with the latest OS) :
1. Excellant camera
2. blackberry connect works well & battery life is not sucked out(did not hand even once in the week that i used it)
3. good multimedia fucntion, mp3 player, mms, radio, camera, video.
4. not too wide & well balanced & weighted.
5. USB charging & syncing can be done simultaneously - Sync with outlook was fast, but not as fast as the blackberry.
6. With this new OS, its much faster & pretty stable - I did have some hangs though, but over all ..i can now say the P990i is BACK, BABY.
7. Its a whole new world after the blackberry, its got a file manager, multimedia & Im loving the camera & the AUTO FOCUS I just go around playing with the auto focus & kept focusing on things randomly..
8. Love the Slider keylock extremely handy.
9. Its Profiles is also very well laid out & you really configure sounds very well.. though Blackberry was better.
10. Much better browser than the blackberry.
11. WiFi I loved this feature.

SE P990i Cons (with the latest OS) :
1. Cramped keyboard & not very useable, but in time you get used to it & can type, but blackberry is far far betterthen again, the blackberry is wider.
2. OS can yes have some more improvements.
3. I hate the fact that my SMS delivery reports make a sound, why cant I have a Silent Delivery report or my SMSs thank god I can turn of Screen Notifications for Delivery Reports.
4. The Thing I missed most was that each Blackberry Email account came in as a separate INBOX, I prefer the blackberry unified INBOX. It gets irritating when you have six email accounts configured.
5. Heavier than the blackberry 8700, then again, more features.
6. Not a very good handwriting recognition system.
7. Decent Battery Nothing compared to the blackberry though.
8. WHAT ?? NO EDGE?? I AM SURPRISED. How could they remove this?? (but 3G & Wifi are included)

Nokia E61i Pros :
1.Good Keyboard
2. All multimedia included & best of all a 256MB Memory Card was included.
3. Wifi, Bluetooth, EDGE, 2MP Camera (suddenly I was wondering how can they even make a camera without AUTO FOCUS)
4. Very good OS, pretty intuitive already a proved platform.
5. Loved the today style ACTIVE STANDBY plugins- very helpful for all your quick schedules for the day etc.
6. SLIMEST & LIGTEST
7. Blackberry connect works well & was also installed in a jiffy just like the SE P990i, but a much smaller download than the P990i.
8. The best PC Suite in terms of functions offered & looks & ease of use.
9. Very good Shortcut keys right upfront for most of your functions.

Nokia E61i Cons :
1. You cant sync & charge at the same time.
2. Slowest Sync with outlook.
3. Nokia invented PROFILES, but has lagged behind in this game I cant belivtheir proifiles only have a universal Vibrate & not specific to emails / smss / calls etc.. so now my SMSs & Calls vibrate & ring but I could not set my emails to be on Silent, as the vibrate function was on & now my emails wont ring but will vibrate. The problem here is when Im in a crowded / noisy area, I reply on the vibrator for my calls & SMSs, but I prefer my emails to be completely silent , but now everytime my hone vibrates, I have to remove it from my pocket & see what it is, very irritating & especially when you have 6 emails configured.
4. Again as in the SE P990i, all my blackberry emails come as separate INBOXs.
5. Very rubbery feel to the keyboard after the Blackberry & P990i & not as good as a tactile feel to it, as compared to the P990i or the Blackberry 8700g.

My ratings , purely from a business point of view :
1. Blackberry 8700g (of course the blackberry 8800 , curve & pearl are even better)
2. SE P990i (with the new OS & transitions set to OFF)
3. Nokia E61i

Infact , Ive gotten back to the P990i after reading all the reviews of the new OS without transitions - I think this phones going to be back with a bang & now the price of anew unlocked phone has dropped to US$375 or so, its worth a buy even nowatleast till the P1 is out 

Blackberry 8700g is still an excellent phone with superb business applications, but no multimedia & in India it costs double the price of a new P990i.

Nokia E61i is a good phone, but the widest of the lot- also has all the features & also an amazing contender,. If your not using blackberry & are configuring a POP3 emails to use, it tops out. Love the feather weight of this phone & slimness if I could get over the annoying profile thingy Id probably buy this phone for the slimness( I can live with separate INBOXs, but I want my emails to come in absolutely SILENTLY)

Anyways these were my thoughts please feel free to comment / suggest anything.

I'm looking at buying either the P990i or the e61i. I need the keyboard to make quick notes and write short article briefs. Which of these dyou guys think has the better Office features?

between the E61i & the P990i...hands down the E61i for your work.... P990i keyboard is almost non-usable

the keyboard is hardly "non-usable". Ive had the p990i for around a month and found the keyboard very easy to use.
Have you got big hands HyPeR? 😊
