why is a 5mp pic on n95 smaller than 3mp n80 pic

Both compression ratio is far to high + camera quality it self is not really very good.

the lens might be Carl Zeiss - but a "good" lens on a crappy sensor does not make for a good camera.

You can't print an A5 from the images comming out of the N95 without noticing the bad quality. A 10x15 is fine - (normal photo) but for everyting else the camera takes bad pictures.

But the Megapixel race in the mobile phones has started - in a couple of years we might get GOOD comparable pictures on mobiles - but not yet.

Just take the Nikon D2hs - a 4.1 mpix SLR - throw on the cheapest lens you can find - and the pictures are more than perfect up to A4++ prints without any problems. Price is higher - but it clearly demonstrates that 4.1 mpix is more than enough if you have a good sensor and image processor - even on a cheap lens. (and the D2hs is still being sold in quantities.)

So Nokia just wanted to make a statement - saying "MINE is BIGGER than YOURS" - but who cares when it does not perform.

Its actually perfectly good for what will probably be its primary use... looking at the pics on the phone or sending them in an MMS to another phone... or on a computer screen.

Totally agree. My girlfriend has a Kodak 4 mp compact digital camera and the photos are better from that than my N95 in all conditions, especially when printed. Thats not to say the camera on the N95 is bad, its excellent from a phone but the fact is, a small aperture and poor sensor will make for lower quality pictures

For a phone Camera, this is good, if its purpose was solely a camera, then it wud be pap.

😊

nokia should let the user decide on the compression by giving options. Like normal, fine and super fine.
