Unlocking 6680

14 replies · 9,937 views · Started 20 May 2007

Finally, after months of waiting Ive finally got my Nokia 6680 unlocked!

I originally purchased it via ebay but it was locked to the 3 network!! As Im an 02 customer I obviously wanted this phone unlocked to use the O2 sim.

Anyway, I know this phone is now quite `old` in terms of new releases but still, I paid just 15 to get it unlocked this morning.

It took 5 minutes but hey, it was worth it!

I know there are some sites out there advertising how to unlock these phones but if I had to choose, its better to get it done in person rather than pay for codes over the net which MAY not work! At least in person, if it doesnt work you can get your money back before walking away!

If anyone wants to know where I got it unlocked - I live in a small town called Accrington in Lancashire.. There is a mobile phone stall on the market which is open every sunday.. 15 may seem a lot of money to some but its worth it if you have been waiting to get your bb5 phone unlocked..

Was the unlocking process done with a "box" or a laptop? This is the first time I've seen anything suggesting unlocking of BB5 phones is easy...

I dont know the ins and outs but from what I `saw` all the guy did was connect a lead to the phone which in turn was connected to a laptop.

It took no more than 5 mins.

To be honest, I was sceptical when I saw his advertisement board offering this unlocking service as I have read many, MANY forums postings saying that bb5 cannot be unlocked.

I didnt pay the guy the 15 until he proved it was unlocked and he did this by inserting an Orange, Vodaphone and then finally my o2 sim card.

He also said he had been unlocking them for only a week but as demand is high he aint complaining!!

I've seen websites advertising a BB5 unlocker for £50 - fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/bb5box.htm, however, I am not particularily trustworthy of them. (even if I were to *obtain* the software, I still wouldn't be happy flashing my phone without some sort of user feedback from somebody else...)

Anyway - I might look out for something like that. Some of the online solutions appear to be crooked phone company workers (if they only unlock one network for instance)...

Ive no problem getting a business card of the guy who did my phone and passing on contact details to you?. The stall he works on is very popular and he seems reliable. Ive been down to it a few times over the last few months and purchased other items off him but I was buzzing when he unlocked my phone!

I got it off ebay mainly to use the tom tom software and I was going to put my o2 contract sim in it - so you can guess how pissed off I was when I found out I could not unlock it as it was on the 3 network!

It would be unlikely that I would be anywhere near him (I live in Edinburgh), so it's probably not worth it...

Like you, I got my phone (6630) with the idea of getting a bluetooth GPS (and a program called "AFTrack" which acts more like a traditional GPS for walking etc).

Anyway - I'm perfectly fine on the orange network right now, but in the future I would like to have a choice...

Guys stop paying to have your 6680,s unlocked. There is a free solution out that needs a DKU-5 cable and a small piece of software. I unlocked my whole companys 6680,s in 1 afternoon .

(sorry, it still won't let me post urls!)
it's important to move the backup that the program makes to a different folder before proceeding. If something goes wrong your backup can be overwritten if it's in the original folder.
good luck,
