Smart Movie Encoding question....

3 replies · 2,656 views · Started 21 May 2007

I am sure it is as obvious as it sounds but...

When encoding using their encoder, is there any point to encoding at a higher resolution then my phones capability (320x240) ??

And secondly, anyone know hte highest bitrate (I am using XviD codec) the phone can handle? I have tried 288kbps and it looks ok. Just wanted to save time icase you guys knew the answers!

Thanks

Hi P51, I have found that SmartMovie can comfortably handle 768kbps and just about handle 1024kbps. It really depends on what you are encoding though as to which bitrate you use - you'll find 512kbps-768kbps produce great results for most content, using higher if you have super quality material or lots of motion and lower if the video you are wanting to encode is low quality, low framerate or does not have much motion.

As regards resolution, there is no benefit in using a higher resolution as it will only take up more space on the phone. SmartMovie's output to TV is only at 320x240, not 640x480 like RealPlayer. Hopefully LCG address this in their next release.
