New Google Calendar?

Hmm.... Geekzone reports that Google Calendar is now available in beta for mobiles. Interesting, and I hadn't tried this before. Here's the link for your smartphone web browser: http://www.google.com/calendar/m - it didn't seem fully functional to me. Comments?

Read on in the full article.

Seems to work ok on my N95, though, being new to Google Calendar, it took me a while to work out how to enter events for days where none already exist, as there is no abilty to create a specific entry date. Instead, you enter "lunch at 1 on Sat" and Google works out that a new entry is required for Sat at 1pm for <lunch>.

Clever stuff, however I don't like the list display format (something I shun on Papyrus as well) and as I use Goosync, I don't see a need to update Google and my N95's calendar separately via this interface.

Very nice, thanks for the tip. However, it's fairly pointless, isn't it? As nearly all mobiles already include a calendar? The holy grail at the moment (for those of us who don't want to use Outlook) is to be able to sync our Google calendar with our handset calendar. Goosync and GCalSync don't fully do this for me at the moment (the former actually due to a bug in the Nokia implementation of syncml).

Could you elaborate on the SyncML bug on Nokia devices. I'm syncing fine with GooSync, but would love some kind of category support. How does GCalSync compare as a solution?

I wish there was a Google equivalent to Contacts, so that this too could be synced. In terms of syncing, it would almost then be bye-bye PC.... !

Not necessarily.

All PCs come with email clients, but lots of people prefer webmail because it's accessible on any PC so their data isn't tied to one device.

If you use a web-based calendar, it means you can access it on any web capable device (smartphone, PC etc) without any syncing required whatsoever. For many people this is tremendously convenient, especially if they use lots of different devices.

I too am using GooSync and it seems to work very well with both an E70 and E61i. If you have enough Calendars on the go, 'categorising' (wihtin Calendar) can work because GooSync places a tag (of your choice) at the front of each entry - though you do have to cough up the 20 to get this multi-Calendar support. I think it's worth it.
Google partially corrupted my Contacts data on import but I've got past that now and it works very well. But I too am frustrated like Steve that GooSync hasn't yet implemented Contacts Sync'ing with my phone. It does mean for the time being you have to be careful about entering changes to both devices - however if you ensure that the Google data is absolutely right, when GooSync crack the Contacts Sync we can just delete all contacts from the phone and upload the Google records to it - GooSync claim to be working on Contacts Sync. It won't be long.
Great stuff.

Just found out that Google won't let me access my calendar via my mobile except via the new Mobile Calendar interface. Boo hiss. And found out that the interface isn't as good, with restricted settings and functions control. This is a pain in the proverbial....

yeah it works.i kept clicking next til i came across my calender input for my majorca holiday.nice touch it was too but it sure werent the majorca i was planning on going to!

thanx

Sign up for a GooSync account (free for one Calendar - 20 per year for multiple). www.goosync.com. Works perfectly.

Hello,

If anyone uses GooSync premium account and want to try Category synchronization with Symbian smartphones (S60v3 and UIQ3), please contact me for betatesting.
