Class 1 or class 2 bluetooth device?

Hi, i'm finally looking to buy a usb bluetooth transmitter/receiver thingy to connect my 7650 to my computer but having seen the 10 metre range i was put off, then i was informed that this was class 2 and there is a class 1 standard allowing a range of up to 100metres.

Can a class 1 bluetooth key/transmitter device be used with a 7650?

TIA 😊

Of course it can. You will never reach 100m with the 7650 though...

not enough power to the 7650 bluetooth you see

even when phone is right next to USB luetooth adaptor, if u go into the network properties and it shows you the signal strength.....it aint that hot

so the usage of a class1 bluetooth transmitter thing will depend on the other device to be paired being compatible to receive the full range (allowing for obstruction and interference), in this case the 7650 not being class 1 compliant?

The range isnt THAT limiting, Im using a VERY cheap class two USB adaptor - and it works great with everything [Using windows XP aswell!!!] and i can walk around the house - there are one or two black spots but its respectable.

for me 7650 USB works great... I have got a 100m USB device... when i connect nokia to it and go on the other end of house i lose connection... but two nokias keep connection over the same distance 😊

The limiting end [Or weakest link] will be the handset itself [in this case the 7650] not the device attachted to the PC, therefore there will be no difference in range between the class 1 device or the class 2. However, that said, if you get a bluetooth device that is connected via a wire usb lead, allowing you to situate the bluetooth dongle within the cords reach, you could strategicly position it so you get less 'between' the two devices possible extending range by a small margin. remember, electrical devices beetween the two deives will seriously kill range much more than a wall between them etc...
