Hi guys, my first post.
Does anyone know which video formats you can watch on an E60? I am thinking of encoding TV progs to the appropriate format so i can watch them on the train on the way to work.
I know it uses Real Player, but does it work with any other formats? Is there other software available that opens up other formats?
Thanks!
At least 3gp and mp4 format. Use SUPER from eRightSoft to produce the encoded videos.
And to get the format details, see http://forum.nokia.com/video (the "Audio & Video Feature Tables" link on that page).
Thanks for both your replies guys, although neither is the answer i was looking for. Perhaps i should have worked my question better - which codecs does RealPlayer for mobile devices utilise.
N/A - The page you linked actually lists the different ways that programmers should implement video playing software i.e "for streaming media use Use network APIs (RSocketServ, RConnection, RSocket) to connect to the network (2). bla bla bla bla" - I am certainly not going to write a program just to play my video files!!!!
nj7 - Thanks, the 3gp helps as that is a codec format, but MP4 is just a container for other codecs/formats - so you could have a DivX MP4, an Xvid MP4, an H.264 MP4 etc. see this from Wikipedia:
"MPEG-4 is still a developing standard and is divided into a number of parts. Unfortunately the companies promoting MPEG-4 compatibility do not always clearly state which "part" level compatibility. The key parts to be aware of are MPEG-4 part 2 (MPEG-4 SP/ASP, used by codecs such as DivX, XviD and 3ivx and by Quicktime 6) and MPEG-4 part 10 (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, used by the x264 codec, by Quicktime 7, and by next-gen DVD formats like HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc)."

I know... I dont explain well. Take SUPER, use the 3gp and mp4, frame rate of 15 is enough, bitrate 384, and the results on S60 phones are great.

Check the "Audio & Video Feature Tables" on the page (as I said); it lists all supported audio and video formats/codecs for different S60 versions and model variations, etc.
