Lack of RAM

This last month, I've installed onto my MINI SD card, quite a bit of software on my N80 IE including things like Handy Taskman, Key lock, Best Profiles, Autopilot, Blacklist, Handy Clock, some dictionaries, TomTom etc
So my free RAM had dropped to about 7 to 10 MB (it usually used to be around 18MB of free RAM). I tried to deactivate some of the software like Blacklist, Autopilot and managed to muster up 15 MB of RAM.

And I must mention that apparently none of the software is running upfront i.e it won't get listed when you hold down the "menu" button or use Handy Taskman to see active applications.

Btw free memory on C: is 20 MB

Its come to the point where I can't open the "Help" tool any more and it says "Memomy Full. Close some applications and try again". But it just won't open. :con?

Any solutions?

Key Lock, Best Profiles, Handy Clock and Blacklist must almost certainly all be running all the time as they're all applications which are watching and waiting for something to happen so they can act.

Only way round this I can think of is to try to free some more RAM on the phone by moving any other applications you have installed on phone memory, pics, vids etc, themes and messages all to the memory card.

I hear that even the mighty N95 suffers from this sort of problem. Let's hope this isn't 'what computers have become'!

Lack of RAM, all of then... Only N70 works well, and seems also E61. All the others, no RAM to work.

what a pain about the RAM. Its ridiculous that 3 or 4 applications running in the back can take up around 8MB of RAM. Guess it's going to have to be a compromise.

I did free C: as much as I could and there's only the bare minimal on it which makes for 20.5MB free space. But I did notice that even when there was only 5MB free space on C: the ram was still around 10MB which does mean that the RAM is a seperate entity. I had been under the impression that it uses part of C: as RAM but doesnt seem to be the case.

IIRC whilst you state to install to Mem card it also stores a copy on teh phone somewhere, have a look for them and delete them. Also if you sent them to teh phone by bluetooth they get stored in your messages as well.

Is there a definitive way of checking what processes are set to autostart

(ie like inittab/rc.d on linux or startup folder/run key on windows)

So far only settings I've found are app-specific. Yet I've noticed recently my n80 takes a long time between boot complete (after PIN) and the standby screen being available -- but only when SD card inserted. I believe it's some of the apps on the memory card starting... (or could be a scan of music files etc)

How do I debug? Other than reinstall from scratch?
