AAS reader Abbas Reza emailed in with some eloquent opinions on the comparison between the Nokia N95 and E90, perhaps the two converged devices of the moment. Steve enters into the debate and then Rafe ties things up at the end. Presenting N95 vs E90: your Wednesday morning read...

I assume people are aware that with the N95 you need to upgrade Quick Office before you can use it for creating/editting. I have used my N95 with the Nokia BT keyboard and it works well and you don't need an external TV. BUT I would never carry a BT keybord as well as the N95. After a week of using the N95 I went back to my P990. The N95 is great for the weekends - great for taking videos. Also the N95 (as Steve mentioned) does need more FW upgrades to deal with the music playback probelms (line noise with wired headset and interruptions when using A2DP).
"As always, you'll never find THE perfect converged device, you can only find YOUR perfect device!"
Exactly, this is why phone makers issue so many dozens of new models every year because everyone wants some different combination of features, looks and endurance.
Is that an E90 in your pocket or are you just..
For the power user, the Communicator form factor is hard to beat.
Of course carring two N95s would give you twice the screen area and a dual core processor- but still no keyboard.
How responsively does the E90 function as a VNC client to a Linux server? That would be nice to test with the wide screen.
Also, much faster than VNC is FreeNX (NoMachine dot com). This would be the killer app for an E90 and would give it all the power of an 8-core Power PC Linux desktop in your pocket.
Is anyone working on a FreeNX client for Symbian? Today's Linuxdevices dot com has an interesting article that would make this possible: Linux to challenge Symbian in smartphones!
Is there a VNC client for S60 3rd edition? Never been able to find one apart from some crappy Java application I found a while ago that was so sluggish that it ended up straight in the bin. I'd be interested to know about the VNC client you're using.
Ford Escort? I think not!
Audi TT would be better 😊
Please. No. Just no.
I was planning on getting an N95 once they become available. Now you've soiled the whole thing.
'Audi TT' - now *that* is more like it 😃
I would say that E90 is better, even if it's quite big.
Well N95 is a wonderful product with a great multitasking system provided you don't use web !!
The ram management is awful and it is next to impossible to use web with any other serious application (fring, gallery, ... even chat disconnects !!)
E90 seems to be business and internet oriented, N95 is multimedia provided you use one function at a time and not a lot of web ...
This ram problem of all s60v3 is getting crazy unless you reboot your smartphone twice a day
Hi hi hi, long live N70. Never had such issues due to 32MB free after boot and never dropped under 10 MB.
