Hi,
Got tomtom 6.02 and uk maps installed on the N95 and using a global sat external bluetooth to connect.
After testing and comparing it to my old N70 and tomtom mobile 5 I have to say I am disappointed.
Here are the problems and if anyone has any advice that may help Id like to hear them.
To start with the loading time on the N95 is slower!! once I add the speed cameras into the maps from pocket gps (the speed significant ones) the N70 takes about 6 seconds to load and the N95 takes 15!
I know I can speed it up by using the single camera file but i like the different speed ones and if the n70 hardly takes longer surely the N95 shoudn't!
secondly and more annyoyingly. The navigation just seems far more jerky than on tt5 and the n70 it doesnt run as smooth!
Particularly whenever there are any voice directions the point freezes whilst the voice direction is in action and then resumes after its finished causing it to jump quite a bit in some instances.
This does not happen on the N70 and its smooth navigation throught and during voice prompts too.
The poi warning to a camera is jerky and sometimes shows a countdown in the top left and sometimes it show jerky it has no time before the camera had alrready passed by.
I am surprised by this considering its a newer more powerful phone using the lastest software of tomtom. especially the freezing whilst there is a voice command and it resumes movement afterwards.
Anybody else noticed these issues or have comments ideas for a fix??
thanks
Only a guess:
Do you maybe have a slow / not good memprycard?
TTN6.02 runs smooth on my N95.

nope I have the 2gb sandisk ultra II card.
Have you had an older one to compare it to?
The main thing i notice is the triangle pointer and map stop moving whilist there is a voice prompt eg in 300 yards turn left then blah blah. the rest of the screen frezzes for a couple of seconds then jumps to catch up.
Does yours not have this issue then? I also notice it just using the demo route.
Dont understand how this can only be an issue on mine as I do have the fast mem card and is super fast for transfers to and from the card in all other circumstances compared to the normal sandisk so I know its genuine.
Any other ideas anyone else experience this or does everyone else have smooth navigation on the N95?
Thanks

I have no problems on my N95 (Generic V11 Firmware), with Official Sandisk UltraII 2Gb and official TomTom MkII GPS BT receiver. It's as smooth if not smoother than the N70 and way better screen refresh than the N80 was.
Remember though, Tomtom5 on the N70 was a completely different product. It may not be possible to make a direct comparison with TT6, although once again I have no problems.
A few thoughts spring to mind:-
1. Your memory card - where did you buy it? eBay or somewhere reputable? Can you test it on a PC Card reader? Mine takes about 10-15 seconds to read 150Mb file off the card onto the PC.
2. Is your FW v11? Is it branded or generic?
3. What else is running when you use TomTom? e.g. Virus Checker, CallRecorders, etc.
4. Are you using TT6 with only a BT GPS receiver or with a BT headset at same time (both work on my N95, my Headset is a Motorola)
Hi thanks for the reply.
Yes I can confirm I have a genuine memory card bought from a retail outlet not ebay. and your times are similar i copied a 350mb file to the card in 40 seconds.
I have compared the read and transfer times to another card and they are much faster.
2. I have been playing around with tomtom 6.01 with different maps etc then updated to 6.02 again testing with the uk 660 map and the 675 uk and main roads of we.
3. I am about to format the memory card and the phone memory and install the software again to see if any better.
To me tomtom 5 and 6 look almost identical and i have had them running side by side comparing on the N95 and N70 this is how mainly noticed my issues.
The main one definately being the pause of movement whenever any sound is played be it voice commands or warnings for poi's this will case the rest to pause until its finished then it jumps to catch up.
also the refresh rate is definately slower then the n70 when compared. and the movement updates slower and is not very smooth.
I will try the above and see what happens.
what map are you using?
are you using any additional poi's ie camera database if so which one the single file or seperate speed ones.
how long does it take to initially load up? mine was initially just a few seconds then after the speed camera files was added its now about 15
finally is there a way to bypass the annoying green legal screen this did not appear before.
forgot.
I have the latest v11 generic firmware. I was lucky enough to get a generic phone from phones for you and updated it to the latest using the update software without need to change product code.

Strangely I don't get the problems you mention. Wish i could advise why?

United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland v660.1199

I always use the single file PocketGPS UK SC.

Load time is about 5 seconds.
Back in the N70 / TT5 days we discovered that the screen refresh rates and program reliability were at their best when NO POIs were selected for display, and (only) the Speedcam POI was set to 'Warn only when on route'. This is the setting I have used on 6680, N70, N80 and now N95.

I believe when you install the program and first launch it, the copyright message is displayed and there's an option to 'Never show this again' (not the exact wording but you get the idea Perhaps you should uninstall and reinstall TT6?
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply,
I have done much testing this evening and it seems yet again to be all caused by the POI's.
For some reason it cant handle having several poi's active. I wanted to use the multiple speed camera file that details each speed associated with the cameras. This is about 24 files i think.
When I try the above the software is jerky and navigation seems to pause whenever there is an audiable warning or voice navigation prompt.
I tried the one single camera Poi and its far smoother i think i will hide poi's and show on route also as you mentioned and that may speed it up. I know this was the only method at the start of the N70's life.
Its poor that adding a few poi's is having such an effect on the running of the software. I know I had all these problems with my old N70 and for ages it caused it to keep loosing the gps connection.
However now with the latest firmware on the N70 I can add 50 odd POI's and have no problems and the navigation runs so smooth - unlike the isssues im having with the N95.
Really didnt expect to have these issues again especially with the N95 supposedly newer and better technology and I thought this would be sorted!
Typical it works now after 20 months on the N70 - maybe it will be sorted when im finished with the n95 and about to upgrade again 😡

Personally I think it's more TTs fault than Nokia's, but all that matters is you have found the cause of your problems. 😊

Sorry but your statement is not entirely accurate...
The link you posted is to Tom Tom's list of TESTED handsets with which they guarantee stable operation of Navigator 6.
If a handset is not on the list it does not mean TomTom does not work reliably with unlisted handsets, it simply means TT have not tested that model.
I can confirm TT6 Navigator is 100% stable on my N95 (but only works with external Bluetooth GPS Receivers and does not currently support the N95s internal GPS module)
hi anyone know of my problem?
i am trying to install tomtom on my n95 i have ver 6.02 and keep getting the same problem " Component UIQ30 product Id is missing"
Can someone tell me all the files that need removing for a clean uninstall of tom tom. I have tried to uninstall it but there are still files which I think are from it hanging around my mem card. I want to make sure its all gone becasue I plan to install the new version (with internal gps support) when it comes out and want to
a) guarantee it installs ok
b) reclaim any lost space

UIQ sounds like a PDA installer to me? But I could be wrong.
Is the installer a .SIS or .SISX file or is it an .EXE?

You've got the UIQ version of TT (which is for UIQ phones like SE W950, M600...). It's not compatible for phones running Series 60!!
But you can of cause download the proper application file on www.tomtom.com. Use the one for E61 - it works.
The maps you already have can be used as before 😊
