WOOHOO i've been waiting and waiting and putting on my xmas wishlist the hope of a wimax enabled phone, if nokia doesnt have one out by the time ericsson has theirs out... i'm making my move

WiMAX on a phone won't help much, if there's no WiMAX network(s) in the neighbourhood. (And if Sony Ericsson only just joined, I wouldn't expect a WiMAX product from them until mid-2008 earliest.)

"WiMAX on a phone won't help much, if there's no WiMAX network(s) in the neighbourhood."

I'm sure they said that about the very first mobile phone! 😊

What they'll probably do is add wimax to an already-desirable GSM/3G phone, just like they did with the first wifi capable handsets. It won't matter if you can't get a wimax connection everywhere, for early adopters (who will make up the bulk of wimax customers to begin with) it'll be enough that you can use it in certain places.
