This thread included a poll: has phones for you been ok to you

well i had my nokia 95 found it very good except for batt which is really bad , but the phone is worth it ,

a little sorry about my n80 though...

just before i got my new phone the screen on my n80 broke i mean it wouldn't work it was cracked or anything but the phone was still working , but i thought i would get the phone repaired as i didn't have insurance at the time i took it back to "phones for u" where i got it from and they said it was still in warranty , so they took my phone off me and sent it off to be repaired (without giving me a temp phone to use in the meantime ).

"phones for U" told me it would take about 10 days to get it back , after 17 days i called them, this is what they said " sorry but the phone has been deamed "beyond economical repair" due to the screen not working because of water damage (BOLLOCKS, WATER HAS BEEN NOWHERE NEAR MY PHONE) and if i would like to dispose of the phone free of charge they would do that (THANKS, NOT ! ! ! ) but if i wanted the phone back i have to pay 17.63 to get it back (rip off i think) i could off just taken the phone to my local market they would of repaired the screen for a tenner , now i don't know what to do , get the phone back or not , i was going to sell the phone on ebay but i don't know now if it will ever work , any advice ?????

moral of the story ................

I am sorry for your problems with Phones4U servicing, but have to say posting about N80 issues in this N95 forum is not going to get you any answers...

My experience of Phones4U is as follows, draw your own conclusions...

I walked into my local Phones4U store at 4:30pm on April 5th 2007. I immediately informed the salesman I wanted the new Nokia N95. He spent the next 10 minutes talking to me about broadband & home telephone deals Phones4U could supply and was told (several times) that I was not interested in anything other than a contract for a Nokia N95 today thank you. After 30 mins in the store, during which various networks and tariffs were discussed, the salesman brought out an Orange N95 and said this was the only network for which they had any stock of N95. So why discuss the other network s and Tariffs?

We eventually shook hands on an 18 month Tariff @ £35 per month with managers discount price of £50 for the N95 handset. I was also offered £30 instant-cashback (out of the till) if I signed up before the store closed. I was happy to proceed and we went through the credit check and account sign-up process with the Phones4U salesman speaking to the Orange Registration Team. After I had been in the shop for about 1 hour, the Orange handset had been registered in my name and a direct-debit setup for payment, I was almost ready to go home... or so I thought!

The manager tapped his salesman on the shoulder and asked what tariff I had chosen. The manager then informed us both that the handset was £200 on the Orange £35pm tariff and that he could not reduce it £50 after all. I informed them both that as Phones4U had now changed the deal to my detriment, I no longer wanted the Orange contract and wanted to cancel everything and go home, where i would look for a better deal online. The manager asked me to wait a few minutes, then disappeared through the back and had a private discussion with the salesman. 2 minutes later my salesman came back with a new deal.

18 months @ £40per month, £50 cheque back in 1 month, Handset totally Free (£0.00) as a special managers discount. I was also informed I can reduce tariff to a lower value after 9 months. I agreed to the new deal as I liked the extra minutes and texts on offer and in my opinion it was actually a better deal than the original one on offer.

HOWEVER, I asked for a letter, signed by the manager, confirming the terms of the new deal, including the promised £50 cheque-back offer. I walked out of the shop almost 90 minutes after I had walked in, carrying my new Orange N95, the letter I had requested (on A4 non company headed paper), feeling content I had struck a really good bargain.

1 month later, no cheque had arrived so I telephoned the local store...

The salesman who I dealt with was on long-term sickness leave, and there was no record of my cheque-back offer. Oh and just to put the icing on the cake, the manager who signed the letter was not actually the store manager but just the senior duty salesman on that day in April, and he no longer worked at that branch.

I called Phones4U Customer Relations team, explained the situation and asked for their FAX number to send a copy of the store manager's signed letter offering me £50 cheque back. I asked the CR operator add a note to my account stating that I was also going to forward a complaint to my local Trading Standards office if things were not sorted out to my satisfaction within 48 hours.

Next morning I was called by a senior Customer Relations employee at Phones4U who confirmed my cheque-back had been processed and approved that morning, and that I would receive the cheque within 28 days, and finally, apologised for the mistakes made at my local branch.

I got my cheque within 10 days of Customer Relations becoming involved.

I might buy from Phones4U again, but only if they agree to provide full written details of any deal we agree on, printed on Company-Headed paper and signed by the [I]genuine[/I manager] of the store. Once I have this document in my hand, I will then allow the credit check and phone registration process to take place... Maybe! lol
