N73 Vs. 5500

Hello, I currently have a Nokia 5410, and was thinking about getting a contract phone. On the o2 website they have 2 smartphones which are the same price, the 5500 and the N73, and I really can't decide which one too get, as I like the camera and whatnot on the N73, and the screen would be good for smartphone features, although I won't do a huge amount of web browsing. But, I like the idea of how ruged the 5500 is, as the N73 looks a little delicate, (which is why I have a 5140). Could anyone tell me any more information about why one is better than the other? Is the camera on the 5500 any good, as it say's 2MP but no autofocus and that type of thing. Is one faster than the other?

Any help would be appriceiated.

Sorry for all the question on my first post 😊

I have only ever used the 5500, but when it comes to ruggedness and build quality it hasn't left me disappointed. I've dropped it on the tarmac a couple of times, and it always bounces back again. (Admittedly the steel frame is already a bit dented, but that only means that it absorbed the shock rather than transmitting it to the innards.)

I was a bit worried about the rubber buttons, but they're pretty comfortable.

The camera isn't bad, but it's not a Canon. Even in bright daylight the colours are a bit off, and when it's slightly darker (i.e. daytime indoors) the noise gets annoying. But from what I've understood, the N73 isn't an SLR either...

Fix-focus vs autofocus isn't such a big deal. With the tiny sensors used in telephones the depth of field is huge and one (slight) advantage with fixed focus is the fix lenses let thorough (slightly) more light (all else being equal).

Thanks for the reply, any chance of posting up some pictures in different lights which you have taken from your 5500? Do you know if the metal case can be replaced? What sort of battery life do you get out of it?

Sorry for all these questions once again 😊

Ive had a 5500 sport since XMAS (payg Argos 129.99)

Ive always wanted s60 but hated the size of usual s60 e.g N70, 6630 even N80 (had an N93) for a while!

OK in my opinion Ill list the pros & cons of the 5500 with everyday use.

Pros
=====
S60 (apps, tomtom etc)
Torch
Music player
Pedometer (never used it but cool to show off)
Groove lab game (Tilt the phone serious wow factor)
Loudspeaker is excellent
Camera outdoor quick and takes nice snaps (all I needed on holiday)

Cons
Battery life is 2 days max (if you forget to charge every night youre done for)
Metal surround is like foil one small drop and it had a horrible dent
Keypad will come off (happened to me and my brother mine replaced free brother had to pay 20!)
Video rubbish
Camera indoor poor with low light (all cams I guess)

An N73 is worth nore but in my opinion these are both yesterdays phones.
Go for a
Motorola Z8
Samsung i520 or i400
Nokia e65

I am going for Z8 when my contract is up.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.1.7196/1690; en; U; ssr))

I was gonna purchase a 5500 until i read its many disappointing reviews.Out of the 30 or so reviews i've read, i've managed to deduce these cons. The keypad WILL split or fall of..2.The icons and text are too small..3 it isn't 3g, and 4..The battery needs charging everyday with mediocre use. I could live with tiny text and icons and the battery life, but no 3g and crap keypad construction make it a no no for me.Suffice to say, i'll be stickin with my n70 and p990 for the time being. Will hang about till the n95 drops in price.Good luck.
