Nokia maps - strange routing is this std performance?

:frown: Hello all

I have had my N95 for 3 weeks and bought it for the internal GPS and route software. However since my phones arrival I have been very dissapointed with maps routing. I have tested it by comparing with routes I already know well and when set on fastest it consistantly gives me routes around the UK which take between 1/2 hour and 1:45 mins longer than the fastest I know for a 2-3 hour trip respectivly (given to me by my older navicore 2005). Following this I also calculated the routes via on line routing such as michelin/AA/RAC all of which gave me similar if not exact matches to Navicore.

Am I doing something fundamentally wrong or is this normal performance for Maps. If this is normal does anyone know what will happen if I load my old navicore on to the N95?

Many thannks for nay help you can give

Mine does the same. It really does come up with some bizarre routes. Most of the time i don't use the navigation option, just leave it to track where i am, and if i get suck in traffic, use it then to get me where i want using a different route

Yep, it's a complete disaster. Time after time is was totally messed up. One route went completely in the wrong direction then came back on itself!. I hope people reading this find out how pathetic it is before wasting their money. Get Copilot instead.

it's unbelievable Nokia would install this C R @ P on a beautiful phone like the N95 ! It's a BETA version to boot !!! UNBELIEVABLE !!!!

I hope they are reading ALL the forums around the internet, everyone is saying the same thing, no matter where you live !!!

I'm 45 minutes away from Niagara Falls, when I did a search it reported back to me that Niagara Falls was 574 km away ! HAHAHA, too funny !!!

:icon13: 😡 :icon13: 😡 :icon13: 😡 :icon13: 😡 :icon13:

Same problem here in the UK, sends me down one way roads the wrong way, completely in the wrong direction then asks me to turn around!! Bought CoPilot and used it all last week on holiday 'darn sarth' and it worked a treat!

oooh I have the same problem 😞

Haven't heard of copilot before. Have googled it and it costs about 70 - is this a one off cost then? do you have to pay anything to keep the software up-to-date?

TIA

Michelle

There is going to be a whole race for this space. I know that a few companies are working on their mobile maps. I reckon the best bet is to wait wait until the Autumn and see what shakes out - I know a number that are going to be FREE.

I also have a BB 8800 and suggest that the navigation is better on that than the N95. I typically change my phone every three months - and do prefer Nokias - the N95 does has some very good features the key issue I find is how long it takes to fix a GPS co-ordinate and its amazin ability to suck the battery dry in a very short period.

Version 7.3.468 of Route66 Mobile 7 works with the internal GPS. I have it running now and its great. It seems like the support for the internal GPS is actually down to a 'bug' in the GPS detection code because the newest version doesn't support internal GPS!

That makes it quite hard to track down the good version but you can buy the new one, install that then find the sis for the older version online and install it over the top. That worked for me
