Its about a tenner with P&P so its cheaper than the Nokia official but if it causes damage you could need a new £500 phone.

imho, stay away from non-original batteries..

most of them are rubbish, and don't even come close to the specs they advertise...

ut.

OK, well is there actually an 'official' larger capacity battery - because battery life really can be a bit of an issue with the N95. (Especially when running Bluetooth, WLAN etc).

makes a 1500mAh one there's not a lot of point ..
If you have heavy usage do what people have always done .. get a second battery / charger etc.😊

OK, what about some kind of add on battery pack that uses standard batterries to charge the phone? That might help.

It's not just about being a heavy user. It's useful when traveling too and you can't get near to a usable charging point.

I would point out to anyone who thinks that a little extra battery life is nothing special, when I switched from the N70 (2 days battery at a stretch) to the N73 (3 days easily) I suddenly found my phone was a lot more useful.
It's more than having one less thing to worry about.

I've also tried those little battery pack things, which eat AAA batteries like there's no tomorrow, and I suspect that unless you go for a proper, expensive, Li-ion/Li-pol battery, you're not really going to be able to trust it. Also, you have to leave your phone in your bag for a few hours, which is inconvenient...

There are scenarios in which I can envisage that it might be useful. Such as traveling to a part of the world, or in a remote location where there is no easy access to a power point, but AAA batteries are in plentiful supply. (Or at least one could carry some with them in the even of an absolute emergency.

Of course you are correct that an official battery is advisable too. But I just want to be sure if I am stuck in an emergency I still have a back up solution.

One of the features I envisage using a lot is GPS. I have a bluetooth receiver in my backpack and a bluetooth headset. Which allows me to follow GPS instructions verbally. So it is not so much of a problem keeping the phone and a battery pack - and possibly an external AAA battery type charger in there too. It might seem extreme, but I just don't want to be caught out in a scenario where I run out of charge and get stuck.

I use the external battery pack from Proporta. It has 3400mAH of spare juice to recharge your gadgets, and is rechargeable by USB or mains. It comes with different tips to hook up your phone / PSP / iPod / whatever. I rate it as a nice emergency power supply and can get two phone charges out of it before it needs to be charged itself. It outputs a full 5v 700mA so should suit most needs.

AGREED! Never ever buy non original batteries they are all sh*te.
A genuine Nokia battery will always out-perform any cheap far east copy.

Can you link to this on eBay, or Amazon or anywhere cheap please?

I don't think you'll find these on ebay or Amazon but you can get them from the company direct here
As an added bonus, if you use the voucher code "passiton10" you'll get a 10% discount off your order.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. It more or adds up to 6 full days usage - which should be plenty for most scenarios. Plus it is made by a really good company and has excellent build quality (unlike those cheap AA battery chargers) and it isn't restricted to phones either, which is useful for all my other gadgets too.

Thanks for the code too BTW.

Just one thing though, does it come with a charger cable that can be used with the n95, or do I need to get this from somewhere separately?

When you order it, you get one free tip and you can choose the correct Nokia one (there was a choice of tips available). If you have any problems, give the company a call; they are very obliging and threw in a free PSP one for me as well.

Can this thing be charged from the mains or only usb?

I can see it being useful on a flight, but when I go on holiday I don't have a PC with me to charge it up....

It can be charged via mains, car or USB. Appropriate leads are supplied.

(why don't people follow the link and investigate themselves???? :con? )
