Ok, I've read a bit about movies (or files) and converting but I can't really see a best way to get whatever file (fli, avi, qt) and watch it on my E60 in 416x352 in either smartmovie or whatever.

Anyone got an idea or a guide or step by step?

I'm currently playing around with SUPER and smartmovie to see what results I can get.

Non of them are specific to one for the resolution I mention, most seem to be for different ones. As you know, each phone is different and therefore has different requirements. I did follow one of the guides for the E61 (i think) and the quality was good but didn't have the widescreen black bars top and bottom on.

I use mencoder (Super is a frontend to mencoder and other video encoding utils) with the following options:

mencoder $input_file -o $output_file -af resample=11025:0:2 -oac mp3lame -lameopts \
mode=3:cbr:br=24 -vf scale=416:-3,eq2=1.0:1.0:0.03:1.0 -sws 2 -ovc lavc -lavcopts \
vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=320:vpass=1 -ffourcc DX50
mencoder $input_file -o $output_file -af resample=11025:0:2 -oac mp3lame -lameopts \
mode=3:cbr:br=24 -vf scale=416:-3,eq2=1.0:1.0:0.03:1.0 -sws 2 -ovc lavc -lavcopts \
vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=320:vpass=2 -ffourcc DX50

This uses 2.53MB/min and gives excellent results on E70 + Smartmovie or the DivX player.

I found a version of mencoder (theres tons of them, you never said which one) but it's a tz file? Don't know what to do with it.

I use linux so I use the version of mencoder that comes with my distro. However I have tried it using the version of mencoder bundled with Super and it seems to work fine.

I'm using Super and DivX Player. The best combination I've foud is around 300kbps for a 320x240 video and 96kbps for stereo sound. The video/sound sync is not perfect, but is the best free option at this moment. Mp4 files are big and they do not offer the same video quality at the same bit rate.

Been playing around with various progs and various settings for most of the week. I reckon I've come up with some bloody good settings for the E60 and it can be easily adapted to accommodate other resolutions.

encode video with PocketDivXEncoder using the iRiverPMP100 as the device and using Maximum dimentions below that. Also had 'two pass encoding' and 'audio normalisation' ticked. Open your video and change the output setting to 416 (E60) x (whatever it goes to) then ok this. I altered the video quality setting to 16 (bitrate 304) and audio to 7.

I've been using smartmovie to watch the finished product full screen.
