As predicted last week on AAS, the long-awaited Nokia E90 has finally launched on the 12th/13th of June. The first Nokia E90s have been spotted in stock in various Finnish retailers including the electrical chain Gigantti and the online store Verkkokauppa. Nokia phones often appear in Finland first for obvious reasons, but the E90 should be available sim-free across Europe very soon if not right now. Network Operator locked versions may take some more time to appear however as the operators tend to alter the firmware before releasing a phone. The availability in non-European regions is still unclear.
Read on in the full article.
The normal channels such as Expansys and Clove do not have a availability date yet. Only Play and Komplett in the UK have indicated when the E90 will be available. Also some people claim that France will not get he E90 until July.
"The normal channels such as Expansys and Clove do not have a availability date yet"
They're only "normal" channels in the UK. I'm trying to cover a whole continent here... 😊
The point of this news story is that if some shops in Europe are already selling the E90, then it's clearly going to arrive very soon in other European shops as Nokia must already be shipping the E90.
Once it's on sale in a shop somewhere in Europe there can't be any more delays for final tweaking, because the factories are already sending out the finished product. Even a July date in France would only be about two weeks from now.
@krisse, my comment was entitled "UK Availability" 😉
Agree about manufacturing tweaking - that is good news. Expansys is a GLOBAL organisation and source their products from many countries so it is surprising they do not have an availability given that its only 2.5 weeks to the end of June.
"krisse, my comment was entitled "UK Availability""
Aha, sorry, the comment titles aren't visible on the main pages. Apologies. 😊
That would be my fault. The comment system upgrade is in the works (a by product of something else actually).
I would not get to excited according to this Mobilemag article. It is only being released in very small quantities. At the moment its Finland only to be followed by Indonesia with Sweden following in August! There was no mention of the rest of Europe. Apparently its a complicated bit of kit and hard to produce.
Intriguingly they mention that Nokia is planning an entirely new form factor device next year (possibly with touchscreen?)
Very interesting link langdona, especially the bit about the new kind of phone, sounds like they're coming up with something to respond to the iPhone. The problem with the article is I find it hard to believe statements like "At this time, there are no firm plans for sending the E90 communicator to any other countries".
Looking up Nokia's original press release about the E90, Vasara himself said that the E90 would have "volume global availability during the third quarter of 2007" (Q3 in this case is July - September).
I think the interviewer may have misinterpreted what Vasara said in the interview, perhaps Vasara said he didn't have a specific launch day for other countries, which is different from saying you don't have firm plans.
It's hard to tell, as the article only has two direct quotes from him about the E90, neither of which say anything about distribution. This is why I prefer transcript or audio/video interviews, you know what was actually said instead of just someone's interpretation.
I telephoned my service provider (Vodafone UK) to try to upgrade to an E90. I was told that they expected the E90 to be available as a Vodafone upgrade (but no price agreed) from the 7 July 2007.
Regarding the MobileMag article, yes I find it hard to believe there would be such limited availability. Especially in the UAE, where the Dubai fanboys (ahem! sorry..."businessmen"😉 would go absolutely nuts if the E90 doesn't show up right about now.
Here is the link to the original interview (in suedish):

... if someone can translate it ?!
Hum checking the Swedish page with a dodgy bit of web translation software it gives the following.
Commencement happen to in Finland and Indonesien and only in august am arrivingis E90 to they Swede, mobilbutikerna.
Which may just mean. Launched now in Finland and Indonesia but wont get to Sweden until August. Which does not preclude it being released elsewhere (e.g. UK) in-between. Which sounds a lot better.
I'm from Belgium and an e-shop from my country says that it will be launched the first week of july, you can see that in bold on the site. Also on the Netherlands edition from that site you can see the same, only the phone is cheaper there because of taxes.
also the price is above 800, which is a lot for me but what you get for it is unbelievable, the 9500 costs more in the days.
