Smart2Go (Nokia Maps) beta nearly over

hey steve, i noticed the wifi icon at the bottom of some of your screenshots. just a question about that does the network settings now include the option for selecting wifi to download maps? that would be cool.

how do you install it though!!?? I just get an 'update error' when using the download from smart2go

can't see a way of uninstalling the old Maps either....

is it me or does the new version seem laggier than the old one? just browsing around maps of london takes ages!

They removed a lot of the functionality I used daily.

The right softkey is defaulted to "Exit" instead of "GPS Position". The new "GPS Position" shortcut is the "0" key, but now you have to dig through the menu to toggle 3D. "0" used to toggle 3D. . .

I'm switching back because of this next change. Call me a cheap Yankee from the States, but I had been using the Tracking feature on the old version to suit my GPS needs. It was about the same as navigation, except there weren't voice commands, added details like time and distance remaining, and the Map was always pointed North. Still, all you had to do was glance at it once in a while to find out where you needed to turn without having to pay $15/month. Thanks for the 3 day trial Nokia, but I'm not going to use the new version if you won't let me use the tracking.

No one else seems to be complaining about this here or on other forums, which leads me to believe I'm the only person who ever used it?

For the N95 you need NOKIA_Maps_1_0_S60_update.SIS (2,7MB). Can't tell you where to find it officially at the moment as smart2go seemed to have taken it out of the selection again. Perhaps you have luck in other forums.

jrmt wrote:I should have added, I was trying to install the N70 version on an E70 device (since E70 wasn't in the supported list). When are Nokia going to support E-series devices?

What do you mean? They support all S60 3rd Edition devices. I have been running it on my E70 for months...
If I am not wrong, there has always been a generic S60 3rd edition version, although I have noticed that this is currently absent from the list. Probably due to the license manager fix they are working on...

Anyway, Having TomTom and Wayfinder also running on my E70, I really don't see the value of Smart2Go. The routing functionality has no real time traffic information, which is something that any meaningful navigation packge has these days. Without traffic, navigation is like walking on one leg only...

Both the N73 SIS file and new Map Loader works perfectly on my E61 and PC.
Well done, Nokia!

well there's still no SIS file for the N95.

And on the new Map Loader, has anyone tried to download the newer maps? For example, the UK maps seem to have increased in size to 98Mb for England... if you download this using Map Loader, there's an option called 'delete previous maps' but it seems to be taking forever....

has anyone tried re-downloading maps and what'ss been your experience?

Yeah, it does take ages to delete. Must be due to the multiple-levels structure on the maps folder. Just be patient. To be sure that it did not hang, you can periodically check on the SD card size using file properties. The re-downloading part is much much faster compared to version 1.0.

What happened to the Start Tracking option? It seems to have disappeared!

YEP. By all accounts, it has. Inconveniencing customers in order to get them to upgrade to paid navigation....

Do you mean the option that screen will follow your gps position without navigation? It is found under button 0 now.

I realize that this is not a WM5 forum, but has anyone else tried installing the new Smart2Go on a WM5 device. I had been using the beta version and when I saw the new version posted recently I downloaded and installed it. I get an error message indicating that the "rdat" file cannot be found, reinstall the application. After trying to reinstall twice, still no rdat file.

I reinstalled the beta version and there it is, the rdat file is in the smart2go directory. But after installing the new version, no rdat file and the application won't start because it is missing. Any ideas?

Hi, I have tried to install th file "NOKIA_Maps_1_0_S60_30.SIS" in my N95 but it stops with "Uppdateringsfel" in swedish?

It appears that a smart2go update for N80 is not available. Due to the license manager glitch that someone mentioned? Does anyone know when the N80 update will be available?

i am also having same prob. i have hp pda with gps, and was thinking to install smar2go. but the error comes up "rdat missing". btw can you copy across the rdat of beta to stale version?
where to download beta version of smar2go which has rdat file. and whee is ususally this file kept in? i mean what exact folder?

I have the same problem as Jack44. The names of streets and places with non-english letters are misspelled and not possible to find by address search. Also the places stored as landmark are somehow mixed up in the memory. A place in Sweden and correctly shown on the map, can get a street adress in Budapest!!

I have updated my firmware and reinstalled the software but the problem persist.

About the rdat file, it seems that it might work if you copy and paste under the name "rdat" the file "rdatsmall" that exists in the application's folder.

My E65 has worked OK using Beta, but refuses to load the new version.
Has any one had problems in Beta with address searches. In addition the soft keys dont allow "zoom out" unlless the main menu is used?

I've downloaded smart2go first thro' Wifi and then thro' PC and Nokia PC suit 6.84

Then come Nokia Maps downloader with ur phone connected thro' cable with PC and downloaded India Maps ( 17 MB)

It works great. Only thing is that first time u visit one city, thro' Wifi GPRS and then the Catche (downloaded Nokia Maps) works.

Now almost the important cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, delhi , Mumbai I can view city maps and the road details.

In chennai, I tried route maps between places and works OK.

Still I've not connected GPS

KR

soft keys on E65 * and # for zooming works.
