On my N80 I often encounter the problem that the battery is unloaded over night. I think that there is a process which does not shut down when I close the slider. Is there a simple method to check this before closing the slider?

The N80's battery life isn't great anyway, depending on what you use during the day it may well be running down naturally.
but you can try;
1.Hold down the menu key, or you could install a task manager to check whats still running.
2. Run the battery out totally from time to time, it keeps the battery healthy so to speak.
3. Plug in the charger overnight. I always charge my N80 overnight regardless of how many bars are left. I wake up with a fully charged phone,even if I don't feel so fully charged myself in the morning

try updating your firmware, mine used to go flat overnight and so far its lasted over 2.5 days with 3 bars of battery left still.
