Is there any good (free) anti virus software for the N95? Or does it have one pre-installed? I've heard of something called F-secure. Duno what it is?
anti-virus?
Anti virus on a phone is a massive rip-off imho. The only way to get software on your phone (unlike a PC) is to put it there yourself or agree to a bluetooth connection etc. Installing something requires 4 or 5 'yes I agree' clicks so if you do manage to install a virus you have to be pretty stupid.
Additionally (and again, unlike a PC), the system software is all on ROM and therefore cannot be altered or damaged by a virus so the very worst you could get is losing contacts and photos etc.
On top of that, no mobile phone virus has ever 'broken out' into the wild. Many are created as proof-of-concepts and sent to the anti virus labs, but they are commercial too so they create software for these virus and market it.
Save your money and just use the Nokia backup facility every so often. Then, in the highly unlikely event that you do get a virus, you can just factory reset and restore the backup.

Good post, very informative. I was wondering about using AV software as well.
F-secure seems like a good program. It's free on your N95 in the Download Icon.
Hi all,
Yes it is free but only a 1 month trial and has been explained very clearly above it is a complete waste of time money and even more important IMO your phone precious resources. Search the many Symbian forums and you will see time and again the same answer is given so this is not just MO. But as always every one is free to do s the please with their device.

Read this and if you follow the advise http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/viruses.htm and you'll realize that antivirus apps are a waste of storage space, processing power, run-time memory and money.
And even if you don't follow the advise, something like 30 models based on S60 3rd Edition or later have been on the market for over a year now, with relevant S60 and Symbian 9 SDKs even longer, and so far nobody has reported any versions of mobile viruses for S60 3rd Ed. based devices.
Finally... 3lib article! Agree, read this, because you dont need any antivirus software on S60 phones.
