Krisse provides a super, in depth assessment (as usual), this time rating the new Nokia 6110 Navigator, which comes with a new version of Route 66 in its firmware. The review's especially interesting since this was Krisse's first experience of in-phone GPS and as a result presents a good viewpoint for other new users.

Great article.
How easy is it to communicate with other devices in connection with GPS?
Is it simple to tell a friend with another GPS handset how to get somewhere through sms?
Also is it possible to find out where a friend is if he doesn't mind me knowing?

"Is it simple to tell a friend with another GPS handset how to get somewhere through sms?"

There's basically three options, and these can be sent to all phones, even non-GPS ones:

-Send your current streetname and co-ordinates via text message

-Send the map currently on the screen via multimedia message

-Send the complete trip currently being navigated via text message.

The trip option actually sends proper instructions in english (or whatever language you have the software set to) that tell people without a GPS unit exactly how to drive the route that you've planned.

If he's given you his street address and you've put it in your phone's address book, there's a Contacts option in Route 66's navigation menu which lets you locate address book addresses and navigate to them. This only works if your friends live within range of the installed map packs however.

You can also enter addresses manually using the Address option in the navigation menu.

Basically, to locate someone you need their country, town and street address (or if it's an unusual street name that may be enough, as long as it's within the region covered by the installed maps).

how much are the map packs for the 6110.. i live in canada, so i would probably need a north american ??? regional pack??
