Symbian Development Help

Hi!
I was wondering if anyone could help me out with an issue I have that I desperately need some assistance with. I am making an application with a standardised platform that would have the ability to get all the values at runtime. Here is the issue that I have:

I want the application to connect to my central database and get all the things from there. That includes the GUI, the menu structure and the content (Ringtones, Wallpapers and stuff like that). Theoretically I think that it should be possible using C++ but I am not sure whether there are any limitations with Symbian applications.

If anyone of you has ever had the chance to read about this stuff, or have actually implemented this, you can become my next best friend 😊 .

Please do let me know if anyone has an idea whether this is possible or not. Oh just to let you know, I am new to Symbian. I have had extensive experience with WAP development but nothing with Symbian. Still in the stage of learning C++ and then Carbide it 😃.

Regards,

Yes, you can make a C++ Symbian app that gets its data at runtime from a remote server.

The user interface you must create separately for S60, S80 and UIQ, if you need the app to run on different Symbian based devices.

In addition, you need to do separate versions for pre-Symbian 9 based devices vs. Symbian 9 and later, and possibly also different S60 versions for earlier S60 based devices depending on the situation and which devices you want your stuff to work on.

Also, for specific questions, you could also ask them on the Forum Nokia discussion boards, which you can find through http://forum.nokia.com/
