Oh, those crazy err..... New Zealanders. Over in the GeekZone forums, one guy has hacked (literally) into one of the Nokia N95's circuit boards, as a way to stop the red (privacy) LED from activating when recording video. Call me mad, but the only way anyone's going to prise my N95 apart is an authorised technician if the thing goes wrong...

Nice tweak 😃 Probably that guy is insane, even though I wanted to do the same thing for a N70 in the opposite mode, to boost the light.
hell I hate the red light as well I'm actually thinking about doing this!! (Funny thing I was actually thinking about how to disable the red light physically and I guess he beat me to it!)
Heh. The low-tech approach I use is to get a piece of black paper and lodge it inside the leather case on my N73. Want to use the flash? Take out the paper. Much simpler, and warranty is intact.
This works well... At last, no damn red light... If you DO screw it up or are worried about the warranty, the replacement component is readily available.
is there an actual use for that light, aside from letting the whole world know youre running video?
like, is it a light meter of some sort, the kind you have in most point-and-shoots?
DUDE!!! THANKS!!!
I may only be 15, but I successfully turned the flash/red light off for good! I used a stanley knife and a small pocket knife(Better than stanley knife in my opinion) to cut the little line thing. I honestly thought it wouldn't work but I tried anyway. I cut it a few times and once i even slipped and cut part of the plastic... I then put the phone back together hoping for the best and voila! NO RED LIGHT OR FLASH!!
All up, It took me less than 5 minutes!
