Morning Guy's new to the board but being viewing a month or 2.

I now have in my hands a shiney new E70 which I have aquired.

Out of the box every thing seemd fine and I managed to install mail for exchange ( the whol epurpose of the phone for me ) ANyway the first day I noticed I had several random restarts... not taking too much notice the second day these became a lot worse mainly in calls that were over a bout 5 mins.

SO i searched plent of furums looking for the answer and tried all sorts this weekend but to no avail..

Anyone any idea???

Things I tried....reinstalled the firmware via NSU which did make a differnce to the phone I got some preload softwear on Zip world clock thingy and pro golf which weren;t there before. I ran all weekend without mail for exchange to see if that made a differnce but still had some ramdom restarts.

Theroy's I've heard but not realy knowen how to impliment. Wlan interfence cause's calls to drop out...might add up becaus eoffice at work is wireless so is home but I did get a restart wihile out an about...

3G roaming with low signal cause's calls to be dropped and then the restart when switching between gsm and 3G....no idea how to prove or indeed stop that...

I also have read about changing product code as there are firmware v3 avaible fopr some e70,,I've search the net and have now all the tools top do this but.... A don't want to rush into it...B the product code for the generic UK model also dosn;t show update available so not sure which product code to go for...

I know it's a lengtheeeeee firast post but I didn;t want to try and sort this without presenting all the facts

Regards

Moose

The restarts are caused by low RAM mainly, but I got a restart while trying to connect to WLAN in ad-hoc mode.

OK that's sounds fair but how do we stop it LOL

How dose the ram bulid up...dose length of call increase ram used ???

I messed about for well over an hour last night search the web reinstalling mail for exchange downloading mail from work account ect ect no calls but not no restarts???

Ratza any thought's on fudging the product code to get V3 firmware

I'm afraid there's nothing you can do, RAM cannot be extended. Anyway, the RAM should not go low for long calls. My longest call ever made on my E70 was around 15 minutes, so maybe you have an issue with your battery. Mine is the one used in the good ol' N70 and the surprise was that it lasts longer than the original BL-6C.

I can give you my product code if you want to update, but there's a problem. I bought my phone second hand and there are only three languages: english, hungarian and deutsch. The phone boots up with hungarian and it was quite tricky to set the language to english.

Thanks for the offer but I'll think I stick with what I've got at the moment. Hungrain not my strong point...

The lack of RAM is a major PITA, but I've never found it to lead to unexpected resets. Two things that ,IME, does leads to resets are:

1) playing around with the SIP functions for any amount of time - it usually locks up the dialler so you cannot make any outgoing calls whether through log, contacts or standby screen - manual reset time

2) playing streaming audio on realplayer for say 30 minutes usually leaves the phone in a sluggish state, it then either auto resets or you would want to do a manual reset anyway

If it's a new phone I would suggest you get it replaced.

I use my phone at least four times a week for over an hour and have never had this issue described nor have I had to manually reboot it after listening to it for over an hour.

I'm using an APAC model which is stuck with a 1.x firmware.

Hmm... I don't recall having that issue when I had the earlier firmware but I don't think I used my music player for lengthy periods at that time.

Note I'm talking about realplayer although the music player has its bugs as well.

Oops... so APAC versions are all stuck on v1.xxx?

I have an APAC version with firmware 2.0618.07.10. To add further my product code is 0527538.

desertrat wrote:I believe so. Everytime I check for updates there are none.

I hope you check for updates by entering the product code on nokia's site, not with NSU. For NSU is required to kill the firewall in order to work correctly.

OK Guys Another 5 days have past and it's been that long since my last restart!!!

Only thing I've change is default phone call thingy GSM only is now set...

I have no problems at all recived a call late yesterday which must have been a least 20 mins plus

SO at the moment I'm in love with my e70 mail for exchange works a treat, and I'm glad to be in a more firmillar operating settings rather than that of the TReo.

The Firmeare update can wait

Thanks for all you help

Looking forward to being a helper in the future rather than a helpee

I just read through this thread and am glad to see that the problem seems to be solved. Just wanted to mention that I had a mysterious restart issue with my E70, and the cause turned out to be errors on a Transcend branded 1G memory card. I put the card in a USB reader and ran explorer/properties/tools to check for and fix errors. The card has been fine since, but if it plays up again I shall just throw it out.
