Data Usage Question

i've just upgraded with o2 with just the 1mb data package that is included. i plan to use the 2 week cooling off period to test this and see how long it lasts. obviously i'm tempted to go for the t-mobile unlimited package instead because who knows what is around the corner.

can anyone please suggest roughly how much data they use with the n95, what sites particularly use lots of data, etc?

02 are extremely poor with their data allowance, its unfortunate they dont have out say 10 megabytes allowance. If you want to save download bandwidth turn off images.

As I understand it T-Mobile are the ones for true 'unlimited'. I'm on Vodafone and I'd drop them in a second for T's 'Web 'n' Walk' package if not for the small inconvenience of living at the back side of nowhere and Voda are the only ones that provide good coverage here.

Whilst I like free stuff I have to conceed that at least Vf do provide a good service here, which must cost money the others are prepared to spend so for now they're welcome to DD my bank account.

Anyway, I'm on their 120MB pm package (which is the highest they do) and so far it seems enough for any 'incidental' downloads and a bit of browsing so that's fine for me but music and video will eat it up.

1MB won't get you very far, especially at the beginning.

I've had my phone for a less than a month and I've used about 12MB (including one accidental download of a 4MB file).

If you plan on browsing the web, getting email and playing w/ the GPS I think you're in for a surprise as to how much bandwidth you'll really end up using.

Acording to the excellent T-Mobile website, my data useage since 4June is 19352kb. So, given the 1GB limit, I still have plenty of headroom left. But it's blown your 1MB limit. I use it daily for email, weather, RSS, picture uploads to flickr and the odd bit of web.

I've used about 800mb downstream and 40mb upstream in the last month (t-mobile).. I think that's mainly from podcast downloads, but certainly more than 10mb of it would have been email - which I think is the problem with the low-limit tariffs.

I agree with phones like the N95 you really need a high allowance data package, to get the full use of it. The only thing that makes it at least bearable is the fact it has wireless lan, but still when your on the move you'd like to able to use the full features as well.
