Can Yucca Browser delete all calendar entries?

18 replies · 10,064 views · Started 26 June 2007

I need to clear out all of my calendar entries, as the first time I synced, it deposited about 5MB of information.

As a result, whenever I try to open the Calendar, I get a "memory full" message, and can go no further.

I'm thinking Yucca Browser can probably access and delete the offending data, but have no idea which file(s) to delete... Any ideas?

no coz cal entries are in sys folder and NO file browser can access the sys folder

OK, thanks - so do I take it that the "sys" folder you mention, is different to the "System" folder?

If that is the case, and I can't get to the calendar data that way to delete it, do I have any options?

I found the reference to "CalDelete" in another post, but when I try to run that, I gegt a message "CalDelete: Already in Use".

Not sure if the reference you found was for the CalDelete program or what, but there is an excellent tool written by SBSH that will delete the whole calendar file. A link to a d/l can be found here -> Clicky

EDIT : oops, just found that the d/l link is now broken. Not sure where to find it now but try looking around for it.

Yes it does, for OS 8 and 9. It was originally written to clear out the calendar file while Papyrus was being developed.

@gnyd

There is a much easier way to do this, just open the calendar in Month View scroll down to delete entry click it to the right and you have the option to delete Before Date or All entries that's it, it really is that easy.

Hi all,

OK I'm officially bad as i managed to miss that completely, well if you are unable to open Calendar with an out of memory message i assume you have problems opening other options also. In which case my best advice and solution would be to perform a hard reset and start a fresh.

Hard reset is *#7370# which will restore factory settings and delete all Data.

Yes, chrsfrwll, that CalDelete is the one I downloaded, but it came up with that strange message. Shame, because it seemed to be the simplest solution.

I'd still like to clear up Biggzy's comment about Yucca Browser - is the "sys" folder the same as the "System" folder? It seems strange that there would be both a sys folder and a System folder. Yucca Browser can access the System Folder. This may be obvious to all the old hands around here, but I am new to poking around the innards of a S60.

Dogmann, no, oddly Calendar is the only application affected by this, and I assume it is because it is trying to access the enormous load of calendar entries which were downloaded when syncing. For that reason, I don't want to reset the whole thing, especially as I've spent the last week adjusting everything to how I like it! If there's no simple way to fix this, I think I'll just buy something like Aqua Calendar, as the problems only occur when I try to open the Nokia Calendar.

A theoretically suggestion - if you can manage to sign FExplorer with the AllFiles privilege then you should be able to locate and delete the offending files. However if you want to dev sign applications with the AllFiles capability (amongst few other powerful capabilities), you'll need to apply to Nokia for their permission....

According to Symbian Signed site:

Please be aware if you a requesting a developer certificate for Nokia or SonyEricsson phone(s) that makes use of one of the capabilities below then a capability request form MUST be completed and sent to [email protected] or [email protected] (whichever is relevant) before the request is made.

* AllFiles
* CommDD
* DiskAdmin
* MultimediaDD
* NetworkControl
* TCB
* DRM

Please notice that Capability request form needs to filled in and sent to Nokia or SonyEricsson only once. After the requested capabilities have been granted once, you don't need to request approval anymore for the same purpose. However, if you need some other capabilities or use the granted capabilities for some other purpose than what they were originally granted for, please send the updated form to Nokia or SonyEricsson for new approval.

That sounds like a reasonable strategy (assuming I can identify which are the offending files) - but can you suggest how it's possible to sign an app with the necessary privileges? I don't know where to start.

Ah, I found the post which details the process, though from my quick reading it seems to indicate that only Nokia can grant access to AllFiles. I can't run the necessary software anyway, as it's PC-only and I'm on a Mac.

Looks like I'm running out of options?

As already stated above, you can always do a hard reset, which will clear all your data, apps, contacts and calendar stuff on the phone.

Yeah thanks, Pmitchell, as I said above, this is not an option because of the amount of re-customization it would incur.

I guess I have my answer - it's virtually impossible without a lot of hassle. Don't know why Nokia or Symbian would need to make this so difficult - there seem to be quite a lot of things about the interface which are needlessly complicated.

Can you not use someone else's PC temporarily and use the PC Suite's Sync application to get rid of all the calendar entries on the phone?

Jepp, sorry for that. But sooner or later (when the next FW-Upgrade is here and you want to go for it) you will have to do it anyway. Just make a list of your apps and themes and make a folder on your pc where you keep all the stuff you want to install on an empty phone. This helped me a lot.

The security features are great though. S60v3 is really pretty secure because of the limitations it gives. Usually i do not like such an approach, but it makes sense here, unfortunately...

@randomfan:
I think syncing via an 'empty' PC is a great idea, it might just work!

Yeah, it's happened to me once before on the N70 - got a new computer, tried to sync stuff from the phone to computer but ended up choosing the wrong setting and clearing out my phone instead... :-s

That's a good suggestion, randomfan - I'll see if that works.

If not, then waiting till the next firmware upgrade is probably the way to go, as PMitchell says - it is something I would want to do as long as the fixes/upgrades are worth it.

I'm sure glad my computer isn't as clunky as this when it comes to fixing problems. I have a feeling that iPhone might light a fire under phone/system companies inflicting this sort of nonsense on their users.
