Have you downloaded the maps onto your memory card? With Nokia Map Loader?

As for the Network Usage Disabled that means that the Maps program cannot access the network to download maps which can be very expensive if you dont have a data package with your calling plan. But if you do have data plan you can enable network access by clicking Options / Network / Use Network set your connection. (Be warned if you use your phones mobile connection and you don't have an allowance it will cost you a fortune.

Gps is well known to be difficult. Especially when used first time. Make sure you have a satalite lock. This is not the same as just recieving a signal. On the main menu in the Gps application, go to 'view', and then 'satalite info'. This will show you what satalite signals ur device is recieveing. Each satalite has a bar beside it showing signal strength. These bars need to be BLACK! If at least 3bars are not black then ur gps wont work! When looking at a map, their is a satalite symbol bottom right of the screen. If their is a red cross beside it, then ur also not connected. Its worth noting, ur first satalite lock will take about 10 minutes or so, and you have to be still during that time with the handset open and aimed at the sky at 45 degrees. Hope this helps. Took me forever to figure my gps, and its still crap. Takes forever to lock

It asks this when the application has been set to never allow a network connection.

Download the maps for your country using the Nokia Map Loader program from the Nokia website or from www.smart2go.com. You can then safely set the Maps application to allow a network connection (MAPS > OPTIONS > SETTINGS > NETWORK).

No more message and no high data charges.

thank you so much for your reply, i did the GPS search and i found a lot black bars and i can get a satellite lock, however when i use the Maps function i still get a big x in the satellite status???? and also the network disable message???

MAPS is very slow at getting a lock. Perhaps 20 minutes on a brand new N95 or immediately after a FW upgrade.
