Keep losing words from dictionary

7 replies · 4,481 views · Started 29 June 2007

I love my N95, but theres been quite alot of loss of functions over my old trust, and hard as rock 6230.

My main gripe at the moment is the fact the dictionary keeps losing ALL of my custom words. It surely cant be a memory issue as all of my content is on a mem card, so phone mem is pretty much free. I didnt have this problem even on the old 6230 and that had so many custom words in by the end of its use.

Also, I cant understand why they scrapped birthdays in calendar. in the 6230 id input name and year of birth so I knew how old they were goin to be, but now thats lost too.

honestly its little things like that I have to wonder why nokia dropped it, along with many other things. I want rid of camera shutter sound WITHOUT having the phone on silent, is this possible also?

Yeah, I can't understand that. It was such a useful feature, especially for young family members (below teenaged) where the birthday number is really important but you aren't close enough to them to remember how old they are

Unfortunately the N-Series handsets appear to lose the custom dictionary whenever you power off the handset (or let the battery go flat).
The only solution is to never switch off the handset and to charge the battery every night.

If you have MS Office on your PC, create birthday entries in Outlook and PC Suite will synchronise them to the phone with no problems.

If the custom dictionary is lost every time any N-series phone powers off, has no-one fixed it so the dictionary w/ custom words is stored, like a mod/add-on.

surely theres more people than just myself who is really annoyed by this

Not that I know of... anyone?

Probably every N-Series user, including myself... but you learn to live with it.

Does this work for you? I've found, much to my annoyance that the N95 won't sync repeating memos / 'all day events' but only 'appointments', ie entries with times associated.

The N80 and N70 both coped with repeating 'memos'. I found that by entering them as repeating events through Papyrus they sync up with the handset's native software but that kinda defeats the object as I may just as well use Papyrus instead now.

I have to wonder how nokia tech's get away with leaving big bugs such as this in all the symbian s60 os'. How has no-one managed to alert them to these things.

Is there a thread with a nicely bullet-points 'FIX-THIS wish list' that will be sent to smybian techys.

They should just make it bloody open-source if they cant be bothered, let the community do a much better job

.

Just checked, and you are correct, I have birthdays entered into Outlook as recurring appointments. This works well enought for me.
