So thanks to a recent post here I just discovered the Orb streaming media program. I've installed it on my PC and tested it on my N95 over my home network and I'm SUPER impressed. I have a pretty big collection of music and this is a very exciting program for me to have stumbled across.
My question is this... Is anyone else using it on a regular basis, and if so, have you encountered any serious issues w/ it? Like does it change / relocate any music in your library? Is it prone to hacking or does it load any annoying spyware, etc..?
it almost seems to good to be true so i wanted to get some feedback before i start using it and begin to get my friends hooked on it.
thank you!
Yeah, I use this. I find it really good, works well on my N95 as well as on remote PCs (great for listening to my music at work).
I find the streaming of live TV from my home media center always fails with some connection error but it works perfectly for music, videos and recorded tv. The way round it I found is to hit the record button first, wait a minute for it to build a bit of a buffer, then stream the recorded program instead.
Generally I find it works great and the way it detects the browser and connection speed etc makes it very nice to use and reliable. No spyware (I have ad-aware with ad-watch and nothing has been detected), it doesn't seem to touch your music, other than to read it and uses a secure connection
after reading this post i set up orb,have you had any probs with video playback? mine goes about two minutes in then starts jumping then just crashes,ive opened up all ports that are required and configured my firewall but cant seem to fix it. anyone any ideas?

Do you have a pc that hits the requirements of the program
* Windows Vista, Windows XP (Home or Professional) with Service Pack 2, or Windows XP Media Center Edition (2004 or 2005).
* AMD Athlon 3200+ processor or 2.4Ghz Intel Pentium* IV processor or equivalent (a slower processor may cause "stuttering" when streaming TV or videos)
* 512MB of RAM
* Broadband connection
* 100MB available disk space

most of the times the problem is with the tv card. i used orb to watch my fav satellite channel ..while in vacation in mexico last summer with a n80 and it was great
I have tried using Orb with my N95. Streaming music works fine but movies just dont seem to work. I get the sound but no picture, or a horrible blur. I have tried this on a highspeed WLAN network in the UK and just have had no luck. Do i need a better version of Realplayer on my phone or is it just not possible to stream movies at all yet on the N95 in this manner?
yeah music is fine on mine too,its just the movies which are a mess.can't seem to fix it.
The problem wih Orb is that your pc needs to be on all the time. That is to be expected of course, it couldn't be done any other way, but it's something to think through before you start making all the arrangements. Another problem is that you can't use it with a mac (a mac file system). I seem to remember that they are working on a version that can read mac systems, but I'm not sure.

Wasn't the roaming data incredibly expensive?

I find it is quite resource heavy. My PC is only 6 months old and I built it myself as a media center but also strong gaming machine. Even so, it pushes the CPU usage up to 15-20% when streaming movies, long tv shows or live tv.
i'v been testing this very good and yes it does like a lot of resource. few things i dont like which is it allows access to whole computer i have about 6 partitions (3 drives) and one the hdd has sensitive info on it. i thought it only shows the folders that you select....
so security maybe a issue and the fact that the site is always down. i wouldnt leave it on for too long only when i need to use it or show friends
xvids and WMV dont play properly and my USB freecom does not work keeps halting when i try to scan for channels.
