I have unlimited internet (T-Zones) on my cell plan through T-Mobile. I was told that BlackBerry was another $20 a month and decided I didn't want to pay $20 per month to get my email on my e70. If I set up my POP email account and have it automatically retrieve every 30min is this the same as Blackberry or no? Common sense would tell me that it's not but I don't want to get hit with a $20 charge on my next bill if it is considered Blackberry.
Also, is there a way to have it automatically retrieve more often, say every 15min or 5min or so??
Thanks!

No this is nothing like how blackberry connect works so you wont get caught out by extra charges, and data used this way will come out of your unlimited data. The blackberry service which costs $20 per month pushes the email to your phone more or less as soon as it arrives on their mail server so your phone isnt constantly checking for email.
There are a few push email solutions like this that will work with any email account, some are free, others are paid for. Ive tries quite a few and found MailX by www.bitween.com the best. It costs about $25 and thats for a yearly subscription. It allows you to have multiple email addresses checked and pushed to your phone at a time interval you decide upon. I have it checking every 2 minutes. It does keep a constant data connection open but uses hardly any data while its sitting waiting for an email to be pushed to it.

This is pretty much what I figured but wanted someone who knew for sure to confirm this.
I just need to setup my Gmail now. I've found some settings online but can't seem to get it to work correctly.
I figured out my problem, the default port settings for POP3 and SMTP were not correct. I changed that and set retrieval to automatic and bam! New emails. Now, I had it set up to retrieve headers only but am not sure that's the option I want since I want the whole message. However the only option is to download 'Message and attachments' which worries me about getting a virus on my e70. Is that a stupid fear or can you get viruses and spyware on one of these Symbian based phones the same you can a windows powered PC? I would prefer having the entire message download to my phone so it's all there when I want to see it but if it's spam I can delete it w/o opening it and risking damage.
Dont worry about virus's on your phone. Ive used s60 phones for about 5yrs and never had a virus and that on earlier less secure versions of the operating system . Its pretty hard to catch a virus on versions 1 and 2 and impossible on 3 so dont worry. A regular windows virus cant infect your phone.

Ok, thanks!
Now, if I could only figure out why it doesn't take them off of the server when I have it set to remove them and why it sometimes retrieves new emails that aren't new. I'll just give it more time and trial to see if I can figure this stuff out since I've only been using this a few minutes no. Talk about demanding instant gratification. 😎
Just realised your using gmail, this can cause problems with pop checking in the way gmail marks emails once they have been pop checked. Once you pop check a gmail account it marks it on the server as read. The next time you check your email you phone no longer sees the email on the gmail server, thinks it has been deleted and removes it from the phone. This isnt a phone or symbian problem, it does this whatever you use to pop check. The best solution and the one i use it to have my gmail email forwarded onto a yahoo account. This one I check on my phone and if I need to reply to an email from it I change the sending option once Ive composed the email and send it via the gmail account. Sounds awkward but if you try it this way it will work much better an d it only takes one extra step before replying.

Thanks for your explanation and now it totally makes sense why the 'new' emails would all be deleted before I ever looked at them whenever it connected. I think that it's going to end up being more of a PITA than I had hoped. I have unlimited data and Gmail is my home page but I was hoping to eliminate that step and waiting for the connection to happen and page to load but I prefer the browser version anyway. I was hoping to make it work so I would get emails on my phone all the time as they arrived instead of having to remember to check (especially if I have an important email I'm waiting on) but it's not going to be as cut and dry as I had hoped. I guess I'll stick to the browser procedure until Gmail gets that POP issue worked out.
Thanks again for your help with all of this.
