Auto-Focus nearly always Red

Hi,

Just got the n95 today and was in the peak district taking photos. When I put them on my P.C, they to be honest were rubbish. All blured. After trying it out a bit more I realised that the auto-focus lines on the screen were nealry always red. When they were the photo was blured. If I got close to an item the focus lines went green and the photo was good.

Is there a problem why I'm getting so much red lines on the auto-focus? Is it not working correctly? I am disappointed with it at the moment. If I take a landscape picture it's just blured. Surly this is not correct for what it touted as one of the best mobile phone camers. It's no better than my Sony W900i, thats only 2 megapixel.

Thanks for any help and tips.

Possibly, if you were taking scenic views with no central subject and the camera's mode was set to auto it wasn't sure what it should be focusing on.

Try setting the scene mode to something more specific for the subject matter.

Hi, thanks for the info. I've tried a few things with it and the autofocus lines always go red, when pointing at anything further than a couple of feet away.

If I took a picture of my living room, it would all be blurred. I understand what you mean about the auto focus struggling on the landscape on default mode. But it seems to struggle everywhere with everything. I tried the different scene modes but blured all the way.

O2 are sending me a new one so if it is a hardware fault hopefully it will be fixed.

the newer 11.0.0.26 produces better pictures.

I sometimes get red lines too but usually my pics are still useable.

You may just have a bad one.

Good Luck!😊

Did a firmwear check and it said it was up to date. A friend has a t-mobile n95, so I tried that one out and the auto-focus seemed to be working a lot lot better on it. I'm pretty sure it's down to a dodgy bit of kit. Just hoping the next one isn't a bit poo as well 😊

It seems to depend on two things:

- steadiness of the camera
- distance of the subject

At least that's what I've found. I can generally always get a green box on closer subjects, but when the main subject of the photo is a distance away, then I'll sometimes get the red box, more often then not. And if I'm too unsteady holding the camera, again, red box.

Same problem here... All my pictures taken from a big distance are always blurry! Hardware fault I think... but they didn't believe me. It's not a bug, it's a feature?

Got a replacement phone sent through to see if it fixed the camera problem and it does. So it seems that there was a hardware / software fault with the camera that messed up the auto-focus. Now the vast majority of pics on auto-focus come out really well and as I hoped they would have.

So if you always get red focus lines using auto-focus, you could have a dodgy camera as well.
