t-mobile branded

is there a way to unbrand it and if I do will my phone work faster? From past experience I know networks seem to load crap on and make your phone slower, is that true in the case of N95 too?

Actually, my T-Mobile branded N95 doesnt have any of that crap. Its only the Web and Walk branded internet browser that is there. T-Mobile have been good this time.

Orange are bad because they put their own slowl menu system and they disaple the VOIP feature.

Vodafone put their own red icons and theme and links and all that hideous stuff.

Yeah mine is T-Mobile and was standard except for a web'n'walk logo instead of the little globe for web. I have debranded (purely to upgrade the firmware before t-mobile had released their version) and tbh I haven't noticed any difference in speed or reliability

I have debranded the phone for the FW update, got it unlocked from T-mobile for 15, only way to recognise the phone was T-mobile is that logo on the back,

How long did it take to unlock your phone? I phoned T-Mobile and they said I have to write to them enclosing a cheque for 15 then wait for possible more then 28 days while they send off my IMEI to the manufacturer. This sounds crazy.

Hi Paul,

I don't know why they are saying you need to send a cheque you should be able to either have it added to your bill or pay by Credit Card over the phone. They always say it can take up to 28 days but in my experience it usually is quicker depending on just how busy they are.

I also agree with the other posters that the T-Mobile branding really is minimal and also they seem to approve new firmware very quickly also. I must say from what i have read very few people seem to have suffered any of the problems found with some of the other Networks looks like T-Mobile got a good batch of N95's.

Would you have any idea of timescale when the update might be available officially, so I didn't have to debrand my phone?
Does debranding invalidate T-Mobile's warranty in the UK?

Hi TommyD

Yes debranding does invalidate your warranty and is why most people advise changing the product code back after updating firmware.

I spoke to a Nokia Service Centre on Saturday that seem to be of the opinion that the T-Mobile branded firmware is already on their system. As T-Mobile do so little customisation it appears they are also approving new firmware quite fast.

As i don't use GPS on my N95 the added A-GPS functionality is of no interest to me and on V11 the Gallery speed and refresh of all thumbnails is virtually instant. I am in no hurry to do the update everything is working fine for my needs and i have no issues so am reluctant to upgrade and have to re set up my device for no real gain. So for now i am passing on the new Firmware.

I am not a T-mobile customer so I could not add it to my bill, but I was surprised that they could not accept a card on the phone. The customer service man I spoke to didn't seem to know what he was doing. He kept reading out his on screen instructions to me. It looked like the first time he'd read them.

Hi PaulN95,

Well if you are not a T-Mobile customer i think they have actually made a mistake from what i have heard normally you would have to at least buy a T-Mobile Pay as you Go Sim with credit on it, for them to then sell you the unlock code. You may be lucky or you may find they just return your cheque and you will need to do the above.
