In the interests of science, I thought I'd try out the updated Smart2Go (also known as Nokia Maps) MapLoader, v1.1g, in conjunction with the now fairly old Smart2Go beta on the Nokia E61. I was in for one delight and one huge surprise....

Hi Steve and all,
Just a quick tip for you wanderers out there using smart2go on N93.
I was able to use the gps system (and maps 1.1) up to 4(?) hours and 220 ks on a full charge. N93 died 46 ks (or 25 minutes) before arrival to my destination.
However the performance was great and no I didnt use the voice option.
My old Trans Ams lighter is disconnected so I had to stop at a service station for directions and a real map (which I didnt need after all).
I hope newer vehicles still include a lighter as standard. Ill be sure to carry a backup battery in the future!
I've tried using MapLoader 1.1 and constantly get the same error message when attempting to download: "Connection to the server has been interrupted. Make sure that your Internet connection is working and retry. If you are still unable to download, please try later". There's absolutely nothing wrong with my web connection - v. furstrating. Anybody experienced the same? Any workarounds??
I tried this too - maps seem to download fine but I get "Connection to the storage medium has been interrupted. Attach your storage medium and retry."
Searching Google seems to show this is a common problem without a solution yet.
I think I figured a workaround, which is slightly fiddly.
1) Open up C:\Program Files\Nokia Map Loader folder
2) Run the Map Loader
3) Select your map and start the download
4) In Explorer, under the C:\Program Files\Nokia Map Loader the program creates a "download_temp" folder during the download
5) Before it finishes downloading, make the download_temp folder read-only. Otherwise, the Maploader will finish the download, get the error and delete the folder.
6) Once Maploader finishes downloading the map, it will hang, as it cannot delete the temp folder anymore.
7) Inside the temp folder you'll see a ZIP file containing the map you selected.
8) Extract the contents of the ZIP file into your memory card -> under the folder \Private\20001f63
9) You'll probably have to kill Map Loader process using Task manager.
I think that should do it.
Can anyone think of a good reason why smart2go have to use the abhorrent maploader instead of the straightforward:
- download this country zip file
- unzip file onto your memory card
- enjoy
Just to add some clarification to RichardL's workaround, the zip file itself needs to be made read only, and the folders inside (with names like 0, 1, 2 etc.) need to be put in the folder X:\Private\20001f63\diskcache.
It would be fairly easy for someone to systematically obtain all of the nokia maps this way, and make them into some form of easily downloaded pack... 😉

After 4 weeks of seeking this was the answer, nokia told me to buy a nokia micro sd to get nokia maploader to work, but with this guide my kingston 2gb micro sd works just fine. THANK YOU
Tried the the latest Smart2go and Map Loader v1.1 with my E50. Am using a Kingston MicroSD from Dabs and a BlueNext GPS from Amazon.
Loaded Smart2Go and used Map Loader to load the UK onto the MicroSD while in the phone.
Has all worked fine and am very happy esp as the software and maps are free.
I really tired trying this stupid software to work. So that what I did.
1. Download URLSnooper it is free (can not yet include URL in posts so use Google) .donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper/ or add 3 w before link
2. Run Map Loader
3. Start to download map you need
4. look in URLSnooper and find line like this
.............maploaderzip/0.0.7/141.zip
copy url to browser and download it to the disk.
Next you can do what RichardL wrote before 😊
do you put the maps in /diskcache/0 or /1 and so on or in /diskcache/(the name of the zip file/0 or /1 and so on thanks soo much its been annoying me so much his problem!!!
