V12 update and battery life

I updated to V12, four days ago, and have a few hanging type problems - but the big problem is battery life. I was reasonably happy with the N95 battery's endurance, but now I've upgraded, it falls over after only 4hrs on standby - usual phone activity, no surfing, a little MP3-ing, no GPS-ing, no WLAN-ing. Used to get a good day's worth before.

Hanging type problems do occur after use of the alarm. I have to reboot.

I did a restore after the upgrade - in spite of my agreement with some of the sentiments expressed by others that a restore from an old firmware can only mean problems.

Anybody have battery probs since upgrade? Could they have changed software battery threshold levels?

I get the impression I cannot do a reinstall to overwipe the restored 'stuff', but are there some pertinent apps I should think about deleting and reinstalling? I think the only post-purchase apps is Truphone, but there may be others I downloaded when two or more cans of Stella had been absorbed.

Thanks for any guidance.

Jim

I do feel that the battery life is noticeable better than before the upgrade.

You should format the phone to get rid of the backup, there is no need to re-install the firmware.

same here, its quite abit better actualy

First days after upgrade I also experienced poor battery, had to charge it every 12-20 hours even after minimal use but now suddenly it has become even better than before the firmware upgrade. I have passed the 48h marker in a couple of hours, It has now dropped one bar (of course, usually when it starts to drop it drops fast)...

I did not restore any backup after upgrade.

Edit: After 60h and some GPS and WLAN usage it dropped to one bar and started with "Warning - low batteri".

Seems to me, people are happier to have a malfunctioning phone than to format and reinstall.
Bizarre laziness.

Can I just ask for all you guys who don't restore to backup, do you have to then add all your contacts back into the phone each time???

You can still use PC Suite to back up certain things like contacts, messages, calendar, bookmarks and notes - restoring a backup of these won't affect system stability in any way.

Personally I have my contacts and calendar entries synced with Outlook regularly anyway, so I just use PC Suite to back up messages and bookmarks, restore them after firmware upgrade, and sync the contacts and calendar stuff back to the phone from laptop.

Contacts can be restored by syncing the phone with Outlook (or other supported application) after the software upgrade. This isn't the same as restoring a backup and is okay.

No, goto contacts, then options then mark all, then select copy, and copy to mem card, then plug fone into pc using mass storage mode, then with pc goto the others folder on the mem card and drag the contacts folder to ur pc, then u just drag them bak wen needed

If you have PC suite, you can just hook up the phone run the 'contacts' app. That will open a windows explorer on the phones contacts and you can just drag a copy of the vcf files to your pc

Just wondering if i constantly have the WLAN connection on as well as the VOIP signal on ( as they seem to click on automatically when i switch my computer on. Does this drain the battery more?

Yes.
