Hi! i have read about changing product codes to get the desired language you need and stuff, but once i change the product code, does that mean i will lose the information in the phone? Cause i am planning to get the phone from 3G in australia, if i change the product code to HONG KONG to read chinese, does that mean i will lose the warranty and the 3G service? eg. 3G planet and checking the usage...if i don't change the product, is there another way to read and send chinese SMS?? sorry for the long post, but i really need it! cheers!
Changing Product Code and warranty
Just changing the product code will not wipe any content from your phone, it is just resetting an identification string in your phone's firmware.
But you can then use NSU to update the phone's firmware to a region of your choosing which would wipe all the content on your phone, so a backup is highly recommended.
I am pretty sure that changing the product code voids your warranty which is why some posters have recommended that you change your product code back to what it was after the firmware flash, just in case.
There's no point in changing the product code back as it'll be obvious it was altered because of the firmware change. Good news is the latest thinking is the warranty won't be voided as it's with Nokia and not the service provider.
The phone will still be able to access any network services (such as 3G) but the provider customizations will have gone so you will probably have to change the settings manually for your provider's WAP / MMS settings etc. This should be easy enough using the Settings Wizard application on the phone.

I think it depends entirely on the Nokia engineer who works on your handset. If he bothers to check the product code, and noticies it's not the original one, then you have definitely voided your warranty.
