Walking Maps

Hi all.

I have had a quick search through the forum but couldn't really find anything.

What i am after is a program which will allow me to set a number of way points on a walk.

I want to use my phone when i go to Snowdon and Ben Nevis this year as a back up to my Compass and map.

Is there something out there that will allow me to do this, at a smaller scale than Nokia Maps (which wont do way points).

Thanks in advance.

Agree. This knocks the spots of anything else. OS maps on your phone, with tracks and waypoints (plus the ability to take pics with GPS coordinates embedded). You also get to choose which maps you want from the whole LandRanger set. Great software.

Absolutely concur with all the positive comments about Viewranger. We walked the Thames Path recently and it got us out of a few scrapes. Only snag I found was the N95 itself and the woeful battery life when GPS is in use. Take spare batteries or a means of charging in the field!

I can only agree with all the above comments. Viewranger really is the business. In the Cairngorms I found it invaluable - I'm a bit dodgy sometimes with a map and compass.

Try and bring a spare battery if your trip exceeds 5-6 hours though - the GPS sure eats the power!
