Satnav programs - for 6110 also

Ok, first I'll mention that I have a 6110 navigator, not an N95, but as well as there not being a 6110 navigator part of the forum (I could have missed it admittedly) this applies to the N95 too.

Basically, Im hedging my bets that any satnav software that works on the N95 works on the 6110 too. Being the same OS, and presumably the same GPS chipset, although I havent found much to confirm this.

Im aware that many bits of software (like tomtom) work on the S60's, but what they dont do is use the internal reciever.

'But you get route 66 software with maps free with the navigator?' you say.

True, but to be honest its shocking.

Problems include:

Postcodes - 5 out of 10 were badly wrong, and yes I know exactly where those postcodes are supposed to be mapwise.

Routing - this is by far the worst point. I have had my tomtom 5 PDA running alongside, for comparison purposes (as thats what the 6110 will be replacing).
It told me to turn onto the motorway in the wrong direction. Also, Ive used it on many many smaller trips, and it just takes such a bad route.

Instructions - Its constantly telling me to 'bear left/right' at slight corners with no turnings. Vice versa, theres been turns on the map which it didnt say anything about. Not handy if your relying on voice instructions.

Now I know that satnav isnt perfect, of that Im well aware. However, I expected it to perform at least close to tomtom, of which my mpas were much older compared to the route 66 ones. Tomtom consistantly outperformed route66. I'll except flaws, but route 66 I just dont trust whatsoever.

Ive done lots to troubleshoot. Triple checked all the settings (quickest route, avoid toll, etc etc). Reinstalled the maps - although the maps dont seem to be the problem, its the way route66 works I think.

So, can someone give me a list and review (if possible) of savnav software which works with the internal GPS receiver on the N95:

None please that rely on you having a data package to download maps/data - like wayfinder.

Ive heard copilot works, but its expensive with UK maps, and unfortunatly I cannot trial it. As far as I know, it could be another route66 type thing. Eek.

Im looking at Navigon, which hopefully has a version for the internal reciever out soon.

Im also hoping tomtom will, but their support is diabolical, and they refuse to say if they will ever even support it, let alone a release date.

So, any solutions? I dont want to get a bluetooth GPS.

Oh, and hardwarewise, the 6110 navi is a very very good phone. The lock is achieved in no time, and Im going to be trying it soon without using the AGPS so that it doesnt cost me in data!

Just thought Id add some info I just got back from Navigon -

Dear Sir,

thank you for your email.

De MN 6 software for the Nokia 6110 is expected in August/September, if it will use the internal GPS receiver we can not tell at the moment for sure but most likely it will.

At the moment we can not tell if it will be possible to use a 7 digit postcode search, this information is available as soon as the software is available.

Included in the download file is the navigation software with the following map material:
Alps & Adria, BeNeLux Region, Great Britain, Eastern Europe and Austria, France, Germany, Germany and the Alps, Spain and Portugal, Italy, Scandinavia. (This list corresponds to the actual map divisions.) Within each individual map you can navigate across borders; for example, you can easily drive from Austria into Switzerland.

Bit confused about the 7 digit search bit, Id have thought they would know that. Any other reviews I can find for Navigon seem to be good, but no mention of the full postcode search.

Its between this and copilot, as Tomtom seem to have utter monkeys operating their support. Copilot however is very expensive, and costs a fair bit just for UK maps, whereas for under £70 you get the whole of europe with Navigon.

Of course, its safe to assume that the same date can be said for an N95 version.

I suppose this is proof that integrated satnav on phones is not quite there yet.

Id still like to know if anyone has any answers to my earlier questions though. Oh, and if anyone wants to ask any questions about the 6110 navigator, I dont mind answering them.
