Audiobook application?

Hi all

I have an audiobook in mp3 format. It's about 250mb, and I'm trying to find an app that can play this and remember the position for next time? Ideally a freebie! Does anybody know of anything suitable?

Thanks for your help

Not an answer to this particular problem but...

I have managed to get player software from audible.com working on my N95. Works very well too especially now I have the 4GB memory card. They don't support the N95 directly but just install a version for any of the other S60 version 3 phones... should work just fine.

Would love to try that software, but which one is it? AudibleAir? Seems like an .exe file, not a .sis (I looked at the one for the N80)

Hi, can you please please please tell us how you did this? I am also an Audible member and tried forever to install their software onto my N95, but it won't work. Thank you sooooo much!!

Hi, I've been trying to get by on Alon MP3 dictaphone. It sports a bookmarking feature which is to be improved in August, at least its what they tell me. It is sadly a bit unstable, but it is the best I have found for audiobooks at the moment :-/

For those that want to run audible.com on their N95...

I have tried to find again where on audible.com I got the sis file but I remember that I had trouble finding it in the first place too.

The file you want is called AudiblePlayerV3.SIS

The symbianinastall.exe doesn't work as far as I remember.

Hunt around audible... it isn't in the most obvious place IIRC. If you have trouble then private message me and I will gladly email it to you. It is only 600k. I am sure that this isn't a breach of audible rules as it requires you to enter your audible username and password to make it work anyway.

I found AudiblePlayer v1.0.3.sis and installed (phone told me device unsupported, but app starting)..

Any idea where to put files to be able to play them ? And in which format ?

Yes... that is the one... it says it is unsupported but there is an option to continue... just hit that and it installs and works just fine.

There is a folder on your memory card called audible after install. Put the audible files in there. I have only tried format 4.

No, it won't play anything except audible.com files... it is the audible player specifically for playing audible books from audible.com.

I don't know if there is a way to convert to audible format?

There's no way to convert from MP3 to AA format, since AA is Audible's proprietary DRM format. There are ways to convert from AA to MP3 but it is a pain... Thanks arny for your help by letting us know about the Audible program for Nokia phones!!

My pleasure...

When I first got the N95 I was devastated that it was not considered audible.com compatible as that was the main reason I bought an iPod (for books) and I was hoping (no, expecting!) to be able to sell my iPod to help pay for the N95.

When I found that it wasn't supported by audible I emailed Nokia and they said that they had nothing to do with audible and their software. I emailed audible and they said that it was up to Nokia to make the phone audible compatible!!!

I thought about it for a day or so and decided that it was Symbian and so should at least work with something that was already working with other phones and that started my hunt. After hours of searching the web and audible's site I found it.

Shows that a bit of digging around often pays off 😊

So I installed the program, and it came up with the "not compatible" warning which I ignored, and it's able to load. But for some reason when trying to connect, if your Audible password has a combination of lower case letters, upper case letters, and numbers, it won't be able to connect to your account. I called tech support and they changed my password to "1234" and now it works... Weird, but I'm happy now!!

How wierd!

Glad you are up and running tho 😊

I have managed to install and play audiable books on my N95 8gb.
But when playing them the phone goes to sleep. Any advice on stopping this would be really appreciated.

Try opening the Audible Player and go to preferences, change the option for background playing to 'yes' this is what I have mine set to and I don't have the problem.

It might work.

Sorry, but I don't get the point of this thread.

The N95 supports resuming where it left off when you set any audio file supported by the phone as a podcast.

Select any audio file from the Music Player application, then under Options then Song Details set Library to Podcast.

I use Nokia Audiobooks.

It supports multiple bookmarks and chapters but I'm not sure if the meta-data file it uses is any form of standard.

It comes with a utility that will allow you to convert mp3s to AMR-WB (a codec for speech, which can make audio books _very_ small and still sound fine). Also rips direct from CD to its audio-book format.

This thread started before Nokia Audiobooks came out from Beta Labs. Also, the Audible program is the only solution for Audible users.
