Well, that's the theory anyway. See here for details. Apparently, v1.05(4) is a customised version of Google Maps for Mobile that takes your position from Vodafone's cell network. Except that it did nothing for me. Comments welcome if you manage to get it working on your Vodafone SIM-ed smartphone....

GPRS on Vodafone seems to be u/s at the moment. The new Google Maps app works over my wi-fi but obviously doesn't do the location thing. I tried to get a page on Opera Mini4 to test the GPRS and it failed. GPRS was OK a couple hours ago when I got a rainfall radar image while I was walking the dogs.

It downloaded and installed OK albeit no branding on the icon. After moving the main screen from the US to UK, it zoomed in fine to my current location. Using a Motorola Z8 with excellent 3G coverage on Vodafone, the experience was a little more then satisfactory. And should you relaunch the application again, it will display where you were last.

I managed to select a point on the map, in Marylebone, adding it as a favorite1 and view it in satellite view. Then I chose 'Directions' and entered a number on Oxford St but, to my surprise, it started somewhere on the A13! So I went back again I chose a point on Oxford St -> fav1...still no joy, this time it took me towards the Docklands.

There was no option on the menu for something like 'find me' so, I can't see where Vodafone come in. Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't deliver apart from zooming in to a location.

After i ordered the new vodafone live mobile internet flatrate (ads: "handy 2.0"😉 in germany, i could download google maps special for vodafone with my phone.
After pressing a certain number (forgot what it was), i got located. I also got a sms from vodafone after having started google maps the first time that i have activated the localisation-service and that i can disable it via sms if i want.

As i tried it while traveling with a train with 150 km/h however i could not tell how good the location was. Still, this is a great service if you want to walk around a foreign city. And as you get satellite images as well, it might also help if you are around walking in the woods.

ok(better if on contract) but could be better as i had £15.70 credit then after about a minute of browsing around i have £14.89 so i just deleted it as, it nearly just took a quid off me just for browsing the maps for a minute :/.
