Hi, the following are the steps you may like to try.
This is for you if you can not use PC Suite 6.84
to flash the firmware from N73 ME to IE.
(BTW, i believed that the PC Suite 6.84 will
cause connection to WiFi hang or the system
will hang during system shutdown).
1. Use NSS to read the phone info just to confirm
that the right region code of your phone is still
there. In your reply, i think it is either 0539366
or 0539364? If not, please change it to 0539366
for China/HK IE edition (i am using this as the example)
2. Assuming you're using WindowXP English version,
and wanted to flash to a China/HK IE firmware.
3. Download the NSU with 0539366 (IE firmware for
China/HK) in English version, not the chinese version.
You should get the language version same with your
WindowsXP.
4. Uninstall PC Suite 6.84, as it is not always possible to
update the firmware with NSU + PC Suite 6.84, restart
your computer.
5. Backup all the phone content to your memory card from
your N73. I have noticed some temporary files in my
memord card, so would encourage you to have plenty of
space in your card before performing the update.
Make sure A: You have enough battery for your phone and
B: Your computer/notebook is connected to a
main source, not with battery only. This is
because some power saving/screen
safer application may distract you from
doing the update.
6. Run the NSU application. You will be prompted to make
sure you've backup your valuable data into PC or memory
card. Proceed if you have done so.
7. Because a succesfull update to IE firmware will change
the default theme, you may suddenly forgot your PIN
code. This PIN code is the same of your PIN code by
turning off and on of your N73 now.
Please write it down or make sure you remember it, as
this is the first question your new N73IE will ask you.
8. Please proceed to update the firmware if you have carry
out all the precaution.
9. One more note for you: IE firmware is about 67MB in
size, during the update, your phone may already go to
power saving mode and the screen on your phone
is very dim. Please do not touch your phone and the
cable. You should look at your computer's screen now as
it has many useful information for you.
10. The progress bar will indicate the percentage of the
update, and at the end of it, you will notice some
notification on your computer system tray, such as
disconnected, new device found etc. The total
completion is actually a message appear on your
computer screen telling you it is completed.
Of course, if you put your phone together, you may
notice under the very dim screen is a testing message
and then phone will reset with a prompt asking you to
enter the PIN code.
11. I wish you success, and welcome to N73IE edition.
You can now re-install the PC Suite 6.84, all your
setting will be remain, but the invoke at WindowsXP
start-up is set by default (i don't that).
12. After adjusting the location, time and date etc on your
phone, you may like to adjust the audio setting (stereo
widdening is off by default), restore your memory
card contents, and also try to download and install the
3D Snake?? I find the camera sound a lot louder, so
sometimes i may mute the sound by personalize
the general profile --> [Warning off]
13. Sometimes, if you like to install and remove a lot of
application, you may accidentally remove some plug-in.
The NSU can help you to re-install the new firmware
(repair), but if you're using PC Suite, you may not able
to do it.
If you asked me personally, it is worth the effort, i am very
happy with it. Any my father only send me Chinese sms, the original firmware can not display it. If Nokia has spent a lot of money for this newer firmware, why not we take the chance to update it, right😊
