N95 with wifi 802.11n

Think I'm going for an 802.11n (backward compatable to g) to try and be future proof (I don't currently have wirless).

Has anyone got an n rated router that has been tested to work OK with the N95? If so, what's the brand and model?

Thanks :icon14:

On a side note, i have not much experience with 'n,' but most 'g' routers slow down to the slowest devices speed. In other words, when i conected my 'b' PSP to my 'g' network, they whole network ran at 'b' speeds.

Worth checking 😊

What autopilot said is correct, the whole network will slow down for the slowest device I believe.
I have a pre-n router, it's a belkin one (can't post a link as I've not made 10 posts yet!)

It has the option of running in n mode, n/g mode, and n/g/b mode I think. I have it in the last one so my DS can access the network still. I've got no problems whatsoever with the n95 in accessing the network, it's pretty fast using the web browser.

This is my second pre-n router, my impressions are it's a lot like a regular g router but the range is much much greater. Also if you tweak the settings a little you can get some half-decent data tranmission speeds (although they're nowhere near as fast as the manufactuer's claims).

It's pretty cool, but if you have a pretty compact place and won't be transferring or accessing big files over the network you might be better saving your money and getting a regular G router.
Just my 2 cents 😊

Thanks for this. 😊

In the end I didn't find any good reviews for a N router. So, I went for a G+ MIMI NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax.

I was hoping that Orb would work with it when I ordered (I'd not had any luck with my dad's router but hoped it was just his) but I've since ordering I've tried my phone with another router and it didn't work either - so I'm not holding out much hope!

the Linksys 300N and 150N both worth flawlessly.😊

As a suggestion buy something you can put open-source firmware on .. which will allow you to tweak the settings much more than the standard stuff. This usually allows the power to be upped to 250mW which will happily talk to your phone in the most difficult of locations.

I've had a Belkin Pre-N router for a couple of years and my N95 never misses a beat with it - even in the garden. 😃

Yeh same here, no problems at all with the Belkin Pre-N router! and the range is pritty amazing! 😊
