For those who were waiting for this, Expansys is now showing the Nokia E90 Communicator as 'in stock', at £553 SIM-free plus VAT. Clove have it for less, but shown as 'Coming soon'. Anyone rich enough to order?
Read on in the full article.
Got mine from Hong Kong via eBay. Changed the product code with NSS, re-flashed it with NSU, voila. Identical to UK model.
And I paid 50 less, and have already had it for two weeks. 😊
I was so tempted to get one, but they are a ridiculous price so I talked myself out of it.
I only wanted it cause it had a decent amount of ram, So for now I'll stick to my N95 and use my Bluetooth keyboard if I need it.
FACT ONE: For the price of an E90, you can buy a new Sony Vaio Laptop from eBuyer, a N770 Internet Tablet from Expansys and still have enough change for a curry for four.
If you haven't got a family and don't fancy eating a curry for four on your own check out
FACT TWO: Still want a Smartphone with a QWERTY Keyboard?, for the price of an E90 you can buy a Nokia E61i from Expansys, an HP Laptop with Vista from eBuyer, a N770 Internet Tablet from Expansys and still have enough change for a Big Mac and Fries
😊
8-)
Yes, it is rather pricey! However, the initial price will come down, I'd guess it will be 400 plus VAT within a month or two. And most people will get this with a contract with business use in mind, in which case they miss the VAT and get it all back from the taxman as a capital asset over 3 years anyway.
Steve
This is the best Smartphone I have ever used or owned (I have a few which cover most OS options) it is worth 500 inc. Vat! All my colleagues at work would like one.
I made my regular visit to my local Nokia shop yesterday. They don't have one yet (although I was told of a shop where there is one - not saying where in case I need to get it transferred!)
The phone is free on Tariffs of 40 and over on Vodafone, including a couple of tariffs that include a data plan of 120Mb per month. Alternatively, you can go for more talk minutes or text messages, and use the capped 1 per day rate for data which gives you up to 15Mb per day (2/Mb after that).
If you want a lower tariff, there are 20 or 25/month (didn't get phone prices for those), 35/month + 150 for the phone, or 30/month + 200 for the phone.
My name's on the first one to arrive in my local shop 😃

(Somewhere in the South of England <g>😉
I was in my local nokia store yesterday and they said that they had had 1 but the guy came and picked it up immediatly! But that they where getting about 10 in within the next week. Also interestingly I didn't know that if you bought the phone on contract at the nokia store it doesn't come with any of that operators firmware, and it's unlocked, opposed to buying it at the vodafone shop where all the above is not true! but for the same price! I deff going to the nokia shop!
Komplett emailed me on Friday to say that they had just despatched mine. £565.76 including VAT and shipping.
And with some haggling I got mine from Vodafone for 90 with only a 30 a month tariff. I had budgeted to purchase one sim free, but at this price I'd be daft no to...
Not bad eh?
That's actually not a bad launch price, it's more or less the same as the Finnish sim-free launch price (which tends to be a lot lower than the UK one).
Oh wait.
I forgot to add VAT to the UK price.
Oh dear, the UK price is a rip-off after all... 😞
dell is selling it for $896
accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=A1213059
And already back to Estimated 2 days.
Can someone explain in detail the comments posted by Mwongozi
Re: comments by "Mwongozi"
E90s from HK are for different countries, such as India. Therefore they have firmware installed for those contries. The FW is based on the Product Code, which you can find under the battery. If you want UK/EMEA FW you need to change the product code using an application called NSS (Nemesis Service Suite) and then use NSU (Nokia Software Update service) to get the firmware you want.
I hope that helps
How do you go about getting one of these on a contract with, for instance, Vodafone? It's not listed on their website - do you just go into a store and ask?
Re: Vodafone E90
The UK web site does now have the E90 on sale, as a business phone. If you want an unlocked one with a Vodafone contract usually www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk are the best people to go to or your Nokia shop.
Thanks Jah; I can't wait to get one of these for myself. 😊
Bought the phone a week ago (in Poland) and all I can say as a power user and a long time communicator user - it is a great device, the software works very well, its fast, BT and WiFi connections now work perfectly (unlike in the 9500) and, most importantly, the front side is usable!
Of course there are some downsides - in particular, the PIM application (which is a disaster, but fortunately we have Papyrus), lack of some features known from the S80 communicators, but there are too many advantages to focus on these...
Best regards,
Borys
Thanks Ja, what is the uk code?
Jah, brilliant! where do you find the uk code?
