Ok, today has not been a good day in my Nokia world.
I turned my N73 on at lunchtime and received the message "Phone Start-up Failed. Contact The Retailer" !!
So, I turned it off and tried again......same thing.
Tried again, and noticed that the headers for my two soft keys were showing so I quickly pressed one and the phone burst into life.
I then saw the Voicemail icon and got a warning saying I had a voicemail, which I did. I listened to it and deleted it and then disconnected. But the voicemail icon still showed !
So, I tried my voicemail again, ensured all messages were deleted and still it showed. Turned my phone off, and lo & behold, it threw up the same "Phone Start-up Failed. Contact The Retailer" message !
So, after buggering about, I decided to do a reset (*#7370*) which made no difference. So then, I did a firmware re-install. Nope, no difference there.
So I called up Orange. Apparantly they're had some "issues with Nokia handsets and voicemail" but she told me that my handset had been diagnosed as faulty, based on the message I kept getting on startup. She then proceeded to tell me that I was outside the Orange warranty and would need to pay 100 for a replacement handset or contact Nokia to get the handset fixed under their warranty. My handset was purchased new with my contract in November 2006.
About as much use as a chocolate teapot.
So, right now, I have managed to get my phone running, but will not turn it off. I will contact my nearest NSC on Monday but envisage being without my handset for some time.
It's wierd that all this happens after absolutely no problems before hand but that it coincides with this alleged issue that Orange are having with Nokia handsets and the voicemail function. I've tried swaping sim cards, but I get the same message 😞
Forgive me for thinking this all stinks a bit.
Anyone else had the same problem ?
