Already at rates of 15-30 Mbit/s, 4G should be able to provide users with streaming high-definition television. At rates of 100 Mbit/s, the content of a DVD, for example a movie, can be downloaded within about 5 minutes for offline access.
Sounds impressive - I hope phone manufacturers are going to work as hard on battery life as they are on increasing download speeds. The way 3G eats batteries, I dread to think what a chip capable downloading at 30Mb/s would do to the handset...
Id prefer coverage before 4G. As it is, theres many areas in which I dont get a 3G signal.
And until data costs improve, its a bit pointless having higher speed anyways.
About the feedback, you can already see its having an effect. That little green square that many members have says 'xxxx is on a road to distinction' or some such.
The rude kids one is the only one Ive ever seen different, saying hes an unknown certainty. Im assuming if you get too much bad feedback it goes red or something.
Wow. But I'd imagine that a new network would be needed like when 3G came out? Or, will it use 3G network but with improved data compression like 3.5g?
This change is for T-Mobile PAYG. I was notified about it some time ago, which is why I was worried about the few kB here and there that were going out without my knowledge (turned out to be Worldmate - see separate thread). From a billing point of view it seems a sensible move, although obviously none of us wants to pay more. Personally, if I'm going to be using Maps, I'm also likely to be wanting travel information and local POI, etc, so I'm going to be hitting the �1 cap anyway, so the few kB used by AGPS is pretty much irrelevant.
