Hard Reset Of Nokia 3650

15 replies · 14,090 views · Started 15 January 2003

How do I do a hard reset of the Nokia 3650. Basically when I turn the device on it comes up with a Memory Full Error. I can not get past this dialogue. So I am kind of stuck!!! I cannot even get into the device!!!
Any help would be appreciated.

Could Nokia 3650 have the same memory bug than 7650 with earlier software versions? Quite hilarious.

However it would help a lot more if original author would give us some background information to work with.

Try *#7370#
If it works,it will probably delete all data on the device.
If you try this make sure the phone has a lot of battery power or has the charger pluged in.

Good joke. How do you want to type *#7370# if the phone doesn't boot the OS?

Here's the ERROR MESSAGE (it appears directly after turning on):

Any hint, guys? The phone is DEAD. 😞 BTW: I'm not the guy who started this thread, so it seems to be a common problem.

What do you expect ? You have a phone with beta software that Nokia never intended you to use. This goes for everyone that doesn't have a 3650 phone with Chinese firmware.

regards.

Type the code even if you dont see anything on the screen.
In some cases it might work.
Many 7650 owners saved their phones with doing so.

I sent the phone back, the dealer told me there is nothing I can do about it. He already sent me a new one, should be here by tomorrow. At least this is what I call service. 😉

I also talked to Nokia Germany today to ask them if they can help. A pretty knowledgable guy told me that the english software 1.34 is NOT a beta version but an early production version which is available on production phones in Asia. However this firmware is still buggy, he confirmed that. The chinese firmware 2.xx is a different thing, one can't compare version numbers between the chinese and english software.
So I'm not sure it has something to do with V 1.34 but with something else: apparently some 7650 programs aren't fully compatible with the 3650, one reason why the crash happened. The guy from Nokia told me NOT to install ANY 7650 program if the programmer didn't approve it for the 3650. He also told me that a bunch of 7650 software programmers already prepare adapted versions of their software for the 3650. He knows that Nokia says that all 7650 software is fully compatible but this is not always accurate.

The guy from Nokia told me that as soon as the european models will be available, the service centers in Europe get the newest European languages firmwares for flashing. So I could try to go to a Nokia Service Center to ask them to upgrade the firmware. They actually don't like to see imported phones but if I pay a small fee (they won't do it for free as on "official" phones), they'll very likely to do it.

>I also talked to Nokia Germany today

3650 is developed by Nokia UK so maybe they are not the right people to ask

>A pretty knowledgable guy told me that the english software 1.34 is >NOT a beta version

That guy is wrong. 1.34 is Beta (maybe I'm from the UK eh ? ;~)

> but an early production version which is available on production
> phones in Asia.

Wrong again. 1.34 is not production level software. It is a development version that has leaked out of Nokia.

>The guy from Nokia told me NOT to install ANY 7650 program if the
> programmer didn't approve it for the 3650

Wise advice for the cautious, but most 7650 programs will run on 3650 provided they are not installed to the memory card.

>So I could try to go to a Nokia Service Center to ask them to upgrade >the firmware

Sounds like a reasonable plan, though going from 1.34 to the official firmware may not be easy (such a big jump in firmware version can cause problems). By the way, if you take your phone to a european service center, it will stick out like a sore thumb as an import/prototype compared to other 3650s there. Why ? Well you'll see !

regards.

3650 is developed by Nokia UK so maybe they are not the right people to ask

Oh well, I always thought that Nokia is a finish company.
So they do development in the UK? Since when?
If you're referring to the FCC documents, forget about it.
Nokia UK is responsible for the US market, including technical stuff.
Development is always done in Finland.

That guy is wrong. 1.34 is Beta (maybe I'm from the UK eh ? ;~)

1.34 is not beta but has been realeased to pre-production models only which went to the Philippines for testing. Beta testing had already ended by then.
It works fine but still has some bugs which have been already fixed in newer revisions.

Wrong again. 1.34 is not production level software. It is a development version that has leaked out of Nokia.

Some people call it development version, we call it pre-release version but this is no beta version. It works fine but still has some bugs. Nothing which can't be fixed in a later fw upgrade.

Wise advice for the cautious, but most 7650 programs will run on 3650 provided they are not installed to the memory card.

One has to be very cautious with 7650 programs on the 3650, especially with programs using certain internal system routines. Cracked programs could be a serious problem too because the code has been tempered with.

If you're referring to the dial, you're right. Otherwise there won't be much difference, if any.

Some people call it development version, we call it pre-release version but this is no beta version.

who is we?

>So they do development in the UK? Since when?

Yes. Nokia has had an R&D site in the UK for more than 10 years.
Like I said the 3650 is developed in the UK. Nokia has R&D centres
worldwide : many phones are developed outside Finland !

1.34 works OK but has never been released as official firmware
by Nokia because it is beta/pre-release (or whatever you want to call
it).

>If you're referring to the dial, you're right. Otherwise there won't be >much difference, if any.

No, I'm not referring to the asian characters on the dial.

regards.

man! all those guests, why don;t you join? then we all know who is talking. It looks like 1 guy is talking
